    I think you were hit by a limitation of your BIOS, and not your OS. I'd be very surprised to learn that NTFS-5 was limited to 128 gig partitions. Sunny Dubey

    There is nothing in this story that requires mentioning an iPod. And frankly all the plugs on slashdot are getting a bit tiring.

    I wish the slashdot editors in general didn't sell out to Apple. But its pretty hard to mention anything remotely anti-apple being that all the pro Apple folks will jump on you ASAP.

    But Hypercard was *perfect* for people who wanted to get their feet wet but were totally scared of everything

    If you want something a little more advanced: bash shell scripting. Easy to learn and obviously very very powerful.

    The problem with Ogg-Vorbis is that it is much more CPU intensive in decoding than mp3 is.

    Where is the proof?

    Hit up various sites that teach one how to encode movies for the Zaurus. Being Zaurus users obviously we prefer the FLOSS, patent free stuff. But mp3 really beats the pants off of Ogg in terms of CPU usage. Lower CPU usage means more chances of having skip-free playback and possibly more battery life for us PDA guys.

    Though Ogg-Vorbis's CPU usage requirements may not apply to this device specifically, I wouldn't be surprised if it did to many other Mp3 players in the market.

    IMO would have to be Intel. I find Intel's NICs to be pretty rock solid, and pretty resonable in terms of their prices.

    Not to mention that lots of mobos ship with Intel's NICs built right in.

    Anyone with me on this?

    The Federation of American Scientists has a nice description of what is on Area 51, as well as many links to provide more info.

    The OSS app known as Hank was pretty much written as a reponse to the short-comings of Snort.

    It supports XML based network rules, and has really advanced things like an ACBM implementation

    KDE's KHTML is already being used in devices with little memory and slower CPUs

    Screenshots include Google, Slashdot, and even The Onion.

    Whats more is that the it is a fully featured browser (SSL, screen resizing, etc). And it does not require X to run.

    Can somebody please benchmark a dual AMD opteron against a dual PPC 970 (MAC G5)

    Not so fast, a significant problem in such a comparison is that gcc has *much* better support for x86-64 than it does for PPC64. If there was even a chance that a dual PPC970 machine was faster than a dual x86-64 machine, the likes of Yellow Dog, and Momentum Computer would have been all over it.

    Hrm, I just DLed the source file and it didn't do that.

    Anyways, you should always use:

    tar xvjf foobar.tar.bz -C $extraction_dir

    World's first amateur nuclear power? Isn't that taken what with France and all?

    I know this is a joke, but about 80% of France's power comes from nucler power plants. Additionally their design on nuclear power plants rivals the American nuclear designs in terms of stability. (And anything beats the crappy Russian RBMK nuclear reactor design)

    In fact at one point, Sigma Designs was caught stealing Xvid code for their hardware players
