I think what the poster meant is there are dodgy Linux drivers for the said hardware, and quote, "for drivers/ide there are *lots* of problems with error handling", so to me it seems the problem is quite Linux specific and doesn't affect the rest of us who use a proper OS. I have no problem using Intel server GbE nics w/checksum offloading in Windows 2003 Server R2.

Why is this news and especially news for NERDS?
Nobody would buy an analog DVR in 2006, most people have HD/digital cable by now, and you can rent cable company's DVRs for like 5 bucks a month and never worry about what OS it runs. Who the hell needs this, especially for $250 (you can buy a hardware mpeg2 encoder card for your PC for $50 and have same functionality as this PVR if you're inclined to record analog for some reason).

  18. Re:VMware Workstation v5.5.1 vs. Virtual PC 2004? on The Next Round in the Virtualization Wars · · Score: 0

VMWare is definitely a lot better than VPC.
One of the very handy features in VMWare is snapshots/machine cloning feature, and while VPC offers some kind of snapshot functionality, its less intuitive and limited.

Also, (in my personal experience), VMWare has been as fast as native, and at times even 'faster' than native - because of smart disk caching, tasks like installing Windows XP as vmware guest complete faster than native on same hardware.

VMWare 5.5 can also do pass-through Direct3D emulation (its a beta option, see http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_vidsound_ d3d.html), don't know about OpenGL, hopefully by 2006 nobody actually cares enough about OpenGL to make a difference.

But you know, I havent been to WindowsUpdate in over a year.
I use a great (and free) tool provided by microsoft themselves - called "MBSA" (Microsoft Base Security Analyzer) to download and install updates.

With MBSA, I can do a quick install of Windows XP with SP2 integrated in vmware, then run this tool, and find out that (as of yesterday) there are 39 hotfixes needed for vanilla XPSP2 install, and it gives me direct (no WGA crap) links to download these updates. All I have to do then is save them all one by one, integrate them into a XP SP2 iso image, and use this pre-integrated disk to install with.

Since i reinstall windows every few months this is not a problem, and for those who insist on keeping windows machine installed longer, they can simply use MBSA to download incremental updates and install them manually.

David Blaine Fails, GNAA claims responsibility

    Dessimat0r - Trollcore, NYC

It was revealed today that three minutes before his 'Drowned Alive' was due to end, David Blaine was forced out of his water-filled glass bubble early with an unknown cause.

The Gay Nigger Assocation of America is proud to announce that this was due to the heroic actions of GNAA member 'trogg', a recent recruit to the proud legion of Internet niggers. During the last few minutes of his stunt, the GNAA can reveal that images of famous internet celebrities 'goatse' and 'tubgirl' were taped to the outside of his bubble, where Blaine could see them in all their glory.

As Blaine turned to look at this explicit imagery, he began to have convulsions of the anus as his poop began to flow out of his rectum. This caused the water to turn a muddy-brown colour. Blaine then attempted to take off his oxygen mask, possibly hoping to ingest the diseased water in order to get a real taste of rectal prolapse.

The organisers of the stunt then feared for his safety as Blaine reached for his erect penis, as the palms of his hands were suffering from myosis. With this, two divers jumped into the water to save Blaine before he had a chance to touch his throbbing rod, and succeeded in pulling him out in time. He was out of breath as he was rushed to hospital, suffering from the effects of the stunt upon his body.

When Blaine was interviewed in hospital by the Gay Nigger Association of the America, he had this to say: "JEWS DID WTC".
