I had fun in the beta, but I dunno if I am going to purchase the game. I got one character up to lvl 13 or 14 and I started to get bored with it. I was always getting the same boring kill missions (or missions that were way too hard for my level). It was taking me forever to level up and it really wasn't fun for me anymore. I guess its just not my type of game.
There is a huge switching cost to using a different operating system
The switching cost definately is a reason for large companies not to switch to Linux, but there is a totally different reason for small companies. I have been working with, for, and around small companies (25 employees) for years and almost all of them are running some flavor of windows/windows server because Bob from accounting knows about computers and knows how to fix issues if they come up. These companies do not have the budget for a full time system administrator, so they make do with what they've got. Since most people are running windows at home, Windows is going to be the easiest thing for these companies to use at work.
I have to agree, this is one of the most frustrating things I run into on a daily basis. One funny thing I found was a company we are partnered with told us they were a strictly Java shop and they displayed their hate for microsoft. I went to their website to get more information and the site would only work with IE 5.5 or greater. My boss and I had a field day with that one.
Except that all expenses paid probably means dinner and a ball game. They will probably just receive $200 or so in vouchers ie a $100 gift certificate to some swanky restaurant and tickets to some Giants home game with maybe some beer and pretzel coupons.
I think he would be hard pressed to get more than $200 worth of expenses on the date.
That is a very smart way to do it and yes my method would not work for that situation. I would think that most P2P software would not be able to get through the proxy authentication, so that would even slow down piracy at the school. Since the FBI raided this school district it leads me to beleive that there was rampant piracy going on, which probably means P2P programms running 24/7 (or at least 8/5).
If they don't have knowledgeable administrators (a lot of schools don't have the budget for that), then the students could easily use the system for their own means.
That really depends on their authentication means. If it is just logging into a domain, that can easily be thwarted by using a knoppix or similar cd and booting right up. There are also utilities out there that will reset the administrator password on a windows machine, thus letting any user get into the machine.
I know this is just an elementary school, but I wouldn't put this kind of stuff past kids these days.
I have to agree with you there. The performance has definately been going down over the past few weeks. Every time I logon now I get "Lost Connection to Mapserver" about once every ten to twenty minutes. If there is a very heavy load (like on Saturday evening) I get the lost connection message every few minutes.
I enjoy this game a lot and am having a ton of fun leveling my char up. I am only a lvl 12 with my highest character (Homer Simpson), but I have enjoyed every minute I can get in to play that game.
IIRC, FireFox does not need to be installed on a machine, it can just be plopped in a directory and run. Heck you could run it from a USB thumb drive if you wanted. Now that doesn't gaurantee that it will make it past your firewall, but if you are looking for alternatives it may be worth a shot.
Since the link doesn't work, I think this is whar Garion is referring to:
Many colleges and business's tend to strip the last name down to 6 characters and add the first and last initial to either the beginning or end to make up an e-mail address..
For example, Mary L. Ferguson = mlfergus or
fergusml. They are just now beginning to realize
the problems that may happen when you have a
large and diverse pool of people to choose from.
Add to that a large database of company/college
Acronyms and you have some very funny addresses.
Probably not funny to the individual involved, however:

I had no problem getting in (Even though I went somewhere else). My HS grades were good (3.7 - 4.0) and I particpated in 0 extra curricular activities. I think the people who are whining about not getting in don't deserve to go to U of M anyhow, they should stick with 12 Mile High.
Let's say that you are pretty good at saving for your retirement and you have $200,000 in a 401k/IRA or just some funds. You make $65,000 a year have a wife and a few rugrats running around. Money isn't too tight, but you do live on a budget.
If you do something stupid and get a fine of $2,500, that is definitely going to hurt and make you think about what you have done. You are by no means wrecked financially, but that $2,500 does make a nice little dent in your pocket book, and maybe you won't be able to take that vacation you have been looking forward to.
I have to agree with you 100%. Also, did you notice the image that was being edited/created? If you are trying to show off a graphics program you should really be editing an image that shows the true power of the program, not a doodle that could have been drawn by my two year old nephew.
I agree with you there, especially if they have to pay to post the job. I found a job late last year by using a local site that is free for companies to post jobs. Also, since the site is not that large, so the companies only receive 20 resumes instead of 200.
When I was looking for a job late last year (lucky me, I found one) I was talking with an HR person and she told me that for every job they post they get 200+ resumes within a few days.
I find the boards very useful and I only apply for jobs that I think I have the right qualifications for, but I have seen some people run a query on a general keyword (i.e. Developer, Programmer, Analyst,...) and submit their resume without even reading the job spec. I guess when you are not working you have a lot more time to spending clicking that little submit button.
That just reminded me of the simpsons episode where the family goes into witness protection:
Agent: Tell you what, sir. From now on, you'll be, uh, Homer Thompson
at Terror Lake. Let's just practise a bit, hmm? When I say,
"Hello, Mr. Thompson," you'll say, "Hi." Homer: Check. Agent: Hello, Mr. Thompson. Homer: [stares blankly] Agent: Remember now, your name is Homer Thompson. Homer: I gotcha. Agent: Hello, Mr. Thompson. Homer: [stares blankly]
[A long time later] Agent: [sighs in frustration] Now, when I say, "Hello, Mr. Thompson,"
and press down on your foot, you smile and nod. Homer: No problem. Agent: Hello, Mr. Thompson! [stomps on Homer's foot a few times] Homer: [stares blankly]
[to other agent] I think he's talking to _you_.

Yea, and a geek would never use a keylooger to get a bully's password

Man I love the Nelson ratings all they do is say "Ha Ha" when you do something stupid.
Haven't you heard that slashdot just changed their name to SCOdot.
Just don't use any HP or Adobe products

I think Smithers would be better at Milhouse, because according to Milhouses file he has flamboyantly homosexual tendencies.
