My description came from other neuroscientists as I linked so I would be happy to hear something counter to this current understanding of how brains function but for now I will take printed word over yours. I still stand by my point that you have no more grip on reality than those others. I am not entering into the discussion about the effect of money/wealth on behavior as it seems I would be already behind.
What I don't understand is why you need to keep bringing me into the discussion. Clearly you can't just discuss something without showing your irritation with others who disagree.
The reason why I kept bringing you into the discussion is that I assume people want to be treated the way they treat others so I was treating you accordingly. Your assumption about me is wrong. I love discussions with people who disagree with me because it opens up perspectives that I have not considered and I have no issue being wrong. Your comments however to myself and others on this thread were condescending and dismissive. That is not conducive to discussion. Maybe that was my fault, I started our conversation in a sarcastic tone which probably derailed it. I apologize for that.
Clearly I can't debate you because you have already debated both sides of the story in your head and with others who are not me. The point of my sarcastic original response is that you have no more grip on reality than others who are rich and famous. Consider a reduction of what we know about ourselves and reality.
From http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
There is a chain of events to follow, Sherlock Holmes-like, from the red rose you gave your beloved, beginning with everyday reality and reducing it, step by step, to get to the source:
The sight, smell and texture of a rose (i.e., the experience), reduce to...
The brain assembling the picture of a rose from various regions dedicated to sight, smell and touch. This reduces to...
Neurons in each region specifically processing raw data into the qualities of a rose (known technically as qualia). These reduce to...
The supporting molecular structure that keeps a neuron alive. This reduces to...
The atoms that compose those molecules. These reduce to...
The subatomic particles (quanta) that structure atoms. These reduce to...
The quantum field that gives rise to quanta.
Science cannot yet explain what happens past this point and where the the source of this quantum field comes from.
So when you say these people have no grip on reality. I am saying that neither do you. We understand reality through how we interact with it and thereby change it at the same time. That reality seems to exist outside of us in the same way that physicists perform experiments and achieve similar results however people aren't consistent tools of measurement.
Lack of empathy, poor decision making and faulty can be reduced by other factors such as the assumption of intellectual superiority. I don't suppose you would know anything about that though.
Again? This is my first comment.
Your original comment is an ad hominem attack on the "rich and famous people" who engage in discussion about ideas you seem to deem unworthy. Seems like you don't like being judged the same way you judge others. That is a double standard.
You must be the only person in the entire world that can get a grip on reality. Everyone else has to rely on their brain's ability to perceive it. Have you told others about your extraordinary ability?
Well then you better be ready to be wrong.
The Coptic word for simulation Hal was used quite frequently in Gnostic texts such as the Nag Hammadi Library. The Archons who were subservient beings to the demiurge used the power of HAL (Coptic for simulation or illusion) to keep spirits trapped in the material plane of existence.
These are civil servants who have the power to take a life.
They must be held to a higher standard than any other group because they are unlike any other group.
The code scans across over a dozen architectures so unless someone alters the code to recreate the botnet but echo data about the devices to a central location then you are relying on the good will of companies to commit sepuku.
A single person can do batshit crazy stuff, yes. But a group of professionals working in a hospital? Nope. Not going to happen. There may be some bending of rules, some I'll-scratch-your-back-if-you'll-scratch-mine situations, but a group of doctors intentionally trying to injure a child? That doesn't happen. Period.
Are you purposely ignoring the history of medical experimentation on human beings that has taken place around the world on people? Unit 731, Nazi Doctors at Auschwitz, CIA MKULTRA doctors being the most extreme and obvious cases.
Irrational responses will always trump future advances. In some ways this can create a balancing effect so that we don't catapult ourselves into catastrophic scenarios with technology but I definitely agree that that high of a number is troublesome.
I would wonder what that 70% would say to someone suffering from Huntington's disease. "Sorry your genetic death timer shouldn't be removed because it is unnatural."
What article did you read because Thomas Drake was indicted in 2010 and Crane was forced to resign in 2013? The second half of this article all takes place during the Obama Administration.
Granted the dropped charges on the eve of the trial could have come from the top or it could have been to save the embarrassment of the US government being exposed of this corruption in a court of law.
Regardless if you inherit an employee or hire one yourself you are still responsible for their mistakes are you not? I don't think anyone is blaming Obama for this but he sure as hell could have put a stop to it as the leader of the Executive Branch of government which the DoD and Office of General Counsel fall under.
Well that makes sense considering that Newsmax is a right leaning news organization aimed at the Baby Boomer generation. They sure wouldn't like to hear that he is viewed favorably by the majority of the country.
Bullshit. No school of any kind is going to teach you how things work in industry. First off in almost every case the instructors have little if any industry experience. Teaching and working in industry are 2 completely different skill sets.
I know it is anecdotal but I have been out of college for five years and the class that taught me the most industry relevant material was the one taught by a person who worked in the industry then came back to get his PHD and taught because of it. He cut right through all the material and showed what would be real world applicable and even brought in relevant experts to give classes on current trends such as SCRUM (the class was Software Engineering). I think you are very on point in your response.
Okay. That makes sense I figured there would be some redundancy to protect the data but I wasn't sure how easily it was managed. It sounds like it is definitely in between. Thanks for the response.
I am curious on using SSDs for high IO databases. Do you worry about the massive amounts of read and write on more full drives or does stormondemand balance your data so that drives are not writing over the same block enough to hit the upper limit? Increase in performance makes perfect sense but integrity of the databases is something we always debate (I work on multiple large, high IO RDBMS) whenever talk of using SSDs comes up.
And they only lied to Congress because they knew that the Congressmen didn't really give a shit and were just putting on a nice show for the cameras
Regardless of your rationalization someone cannot lie to Congress under oath. It is a crime of perjury and one that got a former President partially impeached.

I guess you would have to refine what you mean by computer then.
Well then you better be ready to be wrong.

This simple fact removes any nuance.
Citizens stop acting like jackasses when they too are being filmed. Situations don't escalate as frequently.
Clearly you are someone who has never watched "reality television."

My personal favorite reason that multiple judges have given: This extremely wealthy person wouldn't do well in jail.

They broke apart the Sicilian mafia in Boston and subsequently sanctioned one of the most notorious Boston crime bosses. *two thumbs up*

Also, Israel has a pretty impressive domestic defense industry. A lot of latest and greatest weapons they use are home made.
While I am sure this is true the Israeli domestic defense industry pales in comparison to the size of the US and Russia MICs.

Can't we just create an acronym for it like in government work? CSHFEIWBEBP is totally more marketable than Cloud Computing.

What, no love for the USPS?
Are you not up to date?
The USPS is spying on you.
They photograph and archive the metadata (i.e. envelope info) of every single piece of mail.
No they don't. Source: I work with USPS scan data every single day.
