RTFA: Russian space researchers will lock six men in a metal tube for more than a year
Note to mission planners: Comprise mission of equally mixed genders; must be complete hedonists with no emotional baggage between each other. Do NOT, repeat, do NOT send married couples if survival rate above 50% desired.
As far as the reality TV idea goes, this is actually a pretty good one to get some commercial sponsorship. The first Mars rover paid for itself in toy merchandizing. A manned mission should at least get a fair percentage covered.
She is trying to actually know whether Kerry will be better before she changes her vote
Kerry has a 20+ year history in the senate. Look at his voting record: Voted to increase taxes over 300 times (most failed, fortunately). Despite his claims that there needs to be an "international test" to use the US military, voted No on Gulf War #1 which had the full support of practically every other country. Voted Yes on #2, No to continue funding it after it started, and now complains that it shouldn't have happened. Voted to cut intelligence spending AFTER the WTC was bombed in 96 and now complains that GWB acted on bad intel. Left the meeting between the President and the 911 commission almost 2 hours early.
The list goes on and on. Just check Senate Roll Call I assure you, Kerry would be much worse.

I can't imagine even BEGINNING to normalize "a massive system of interconnected... databases". This'll take years just to chart out and decades to implement.

If you're not travelling on either business or a vacation then are you doing?? Practically everything except going to a funeral fits into one or the other!
I knew Bush was bad, but he successfully avoided answering all the questions and replying with bullshit
Starting with the very first question, "I would like to know what steps will be taken to either ensure I will get the benefits I've paid for or to allow me to no longer contribute to Social Security and use that extra income to invest myself for my retirement" Bush responded directly: "I favor the establishment of voluntary personal accounts for younger workers."
How is this avoiding the question and replying with bullshit? I think it's obvious that you're just trying to take a cheap shot at GWB, but it isn't working for anyone who paid attention while reading.

From his bio: As director, he oversees an agency with about 3,500 employees
Now tell me seriously that someone with 3,500 employees under them is able to pick out one at random and say that he/she doesn't see any intelligence in the mirror every morning. Was this director the direct supervisor of the person fired?
While you've got a valid complaint that your particular unit needs repair, the other complaints seem rather petty to condemn the entire machine. All the Thinkpad users I know got the things partially because they like the trackpad better than those fingerpads on most notebooks. If you don't like trackpads don't take it out on the machine because your company makes you use it. IBM listened to other customers with the same complaint and has released a utility that lets you map any of the more otherwise useless keys (for example one of the Alts since there is a spare) into being a Windows key. They might even have updated the utility software that controls how the display works.

This is completely correct. I don't buy the speeder's story that stomping on the brakes didn't work at first but did later on. From the article:
Finally, as he was bearing down on a toll booth, Dequiedt said he finally managed to bring the car to a halt -- having raced down some 125 miles of highway between Vierzon and Riom in central France.
"I stomped on the brakes as hard as I could and the car finally stopped," he said."
There's no normal car that accellerates harder than its brakes can hold. Try this yourself next time there's no one behind you on the highway (no one behind == important). Step on the brake and the accellerator at the same time, and you don't even have to slam on them or anything, just press normally. You WILL slow down unless maybe you're in a Bugatti Veyron.
Last week, my WinXP box locked up in the middle of a game. It was so bad, smoke poured out of the case. The software, probably WinXP but maybe the game, had overused one of the RAM modules so hard that two of the leads were charred black.
They're at orbital velocity. It isn't going to fall, it's just going to sit near the station.
Ah, but if they go on spacewalk in order to heave it behind (relative to orbital path) the station, the station will pick up orbital speed and the trash will loose orbital speed. They'll use a little less fuel in height correction and the garbage will fall to the atmosphere and everyone wins! That's what all rocketry boils down to doing; throwing something (usually burning fuel) out the back in order move foward/upward.
I was hoping a few more people would have a successful first launch before someone managed to do it twice
Think about it for a second, please. A successful first without a successful second implies the second fails. Failure on the way to 300,000 feet is almost certain to be unpleasant to say the least. Fortunately, your hopes were dashed.

7 billion in profit on 220 billion in sales is a miserable 3.18%, making WM modestly successful for a retailer but SAD, SAD, SAD when it comes to a lot of other companies in terms of profitability. And speaking of retailing, plenty of specialty stores have much higher profitability but just haven't grown so large as WM because less people want whatever specialty.
Have you been reading 'No Brands' or similar nonsense again?
Well, yes, legally one need only be 35. But Kennedy at 43 was the youngest and he got plenty of flack for being even that young. A 35yo doesn't have a chance, practically speaking, and a 41yo would have a very hard time of it.
If Barack Obama were to run as a third-party candidate... it wouldn't do much, as he would carry very few states and likely receive no electoral votes.
Umm, maybe he wouldn't get any electorial votes because at 41 he's too young to run for president.
