    Self driving race cars would plot perfect curves and run on the exact speed point before tire slippage started. Once the field started and worked out a racing order, it would stay that way for the entire remainder of the race. It would be extremely boring.

    Oracle has grown into an enormous software services company; their database system is now only part of that. Support is the primary reason enterprises use Oracle DBMS, not a particular feature.

    Targeting a 200 yard radius is usually done by truck when local city government does it. To do it from aircraft you'd need military grade laser guided bug spraying.

    Do you realize what the target demographic is in question? Recruiters don't recruit for McDonalds; all you do is as for an application over the counter and after you fill it out the shift manager will spend 10 minutes determining if you don't outright drool on yourself.

    Apple is not bringing "back" profits. That money was never in the US

    More Apple shareholders are in the US than elsewhere. In finance terminology, profits are "brought back" to the owners. So the term is correct in this usage.

    if Americans vote for trump it'll be simultaneously the saddest thing and the most fucking funny thing that has ever happened.

    It will probably be more like when Ventura was elected governor of Minnesota except on a national level. Endless complaining by the establishment on both sides but not much coming of it by the end.

    In China in each body style adjustment after 2 or 3 years gets a new name. For example, what in the US is called the VW Jetta over the years is called Santana, Bora, Sagitar, Lavida, and several others I forget.

    Copyright assumes some degree of intellectual effort, "something" created by an author or artist - with the focus on CREATED

    Copyright law in terms of photographs, painting, drawings, etc, is long settled in favor of the person clicking the shutter or holding the pen, etc. Clearly what is in question is the images, not the actual cat's actual face. One if someone tried to put the actual cat's actual face on a bag of coffee, then your rant about a cat's face not being art might be relevant.

    Canon puts the stabilization in the lens for a good reason. Sensor-based stabilization is only useful on point-and-shoot cameras or mirrorless cameras with electronic viewfinders

    Well, I think the folks at Sony, who make fine DSLR cameras with sensor based stabilization, would disagree with you on this point. I suspect the GP is a Sony fan. I prefer Canon myself but I also stand by my assertion that either way is a legit method with different trade offs

    Canon puts the stabilization in the lens instead of the sensor and that's a legit design trade off; I'm sure they're sad you don't agree. My Canon's ISO goes to 25600 in normal modes and 102400 in emergencies, how high do you want?

    The problem isn't always outsourcing, but in this case I bet that HP themselves immediately re-outsourced it to an offshore firm that may or may not be also outsourcing it. The biggest outsourcing vendors do this trick all the time.

    Exactly: Cricket. Not sure what country the author of that article is in. For US customers, it's the carriers not the OEMs who are the roadblocks to updates.

    Only time I have a huge unread inbox is when I have had some extended vacation.

    Even then, it's no problem. Select all, mark all as read. Email to group: if anyone sent me anything critical while I was out that still needs my attention, resend it.

    It seems to be dynamic. Once the network icon said '3G' and another time it was '2G'. Probably if you're in an area that still has 2G around, that's what you get.

    Of course, all this aside, ATT still isn't very friendly to international travel. Earlier this year with T-Mobile I got a text message after arriving in Beijing: "Welcome to China, you get unlimited text and 2G data" as included with my basic plan and it worked great. The best part was that it tunneled somehow through the Great Firewall. Google, etc, that are blocked for locals was not on my phone.

    I've hit my cap several times and gone to the T-Mobile version of this throttled back speed mechanism. It is still usable for general web. If you need streaming video, pay the overage; otherwise just don't be so twitchy.

    Yes, but the TAWS will yell at you "TERRAIN" and "PULL UP" long before its to late for you to do so even if you are fucking the stewardess.

    Notice even this doesn't help when the pilot has suicidal mental illness.
