    Duh how about being able to interoperate and/or compete with their products? Microsoft in general does not document the inner workings of their products and so you can't interoperate or compete effectively.

    Digital data is TRIVIAL to fake, with the right software it's even easier than that.

    Physical evidence is MUCH harder to fake

    You are paying for the service of using the software.

    So what if the vendor doesn't have to actually do anything, that's not the point.

    Think of it as a hosted app except you are doing the hosting.

    Of course the flip side is that you should be able to get your money back if the service is not satisfactory.

    Whatever has happened to personal responsibility?

    Well of course, but since we humans have control over our situations and our lives, we can prepare our situations so that the risk of errors is minimized.

    Example: due to a poor user interface, a pilot programs the autopilot to fly into the side of a mountain (yes this really happened). Of course it is a user error, but the designers of the autopilot STILL took the effort to redesign the user interface.

    And as far as "personal responsibility" goes, well the pilot is dead, so good luck teaching them a lesson.

    I have Fedora 12 on my desktop with SELinux enabled. I didn't have to do ANYTHING AT ALL. I haven't seen an un-intentional alert in months. I was worried so I set one off myself just to make sure SELinux is still working, and yes it caught it.
