  1. I don't agree with the patent on Prince of Pop-ups · · Score: 1

Everyone seems to be in cheery mood over this patent, as it will scare some would be pop-up advertisers away. However, I think the patent is kind of silly. First off, how can you patent a window? That is part of the patent right there. So part of the patent is patenting a separate window, but the window has to sell things. I don't think that stuff like that should be patentable. Having a browser open up a small pop up window isn't a new thing and is a basic browser function. Deciding to sell something in the same window isn't very genious either. It's annoying, but not special enough to patent.

I guess I have to agree with the people that say that we should have the right to do whatever we want with waves that pass through our backyard. The only problem with that logic is that by the same standard, it is ok to modify a scanner to listen to people's cell phone conversations.

  7. Re:Only good news on Mozilla, Gecko, Netscape, And Their Future At AOL · · Score: 4, Interesting

Yeah, you have an excellent point there. If AOL shifts over to Gecko use, websites will be urged to move away from proprietary bullshit Internet Explorer HTML, and back over to the "real" HTML 4.0 standard. But wait, I just realized that in order for websites to make themselves more compliant, they have to actually hire a web designer with talent instead of using MS FrontPage and the lovely HTML it produces.

That isn't what a Trojan is. A Trojan is a program that you actually download because you want to. When you install it, either the Trojan piggy-backs onto the installer of the legit program, or the Trojan is the actual program itself.

  9. coffee on Nicotine-Free Cigs, Genetically Engineered · · Score: 1

Speaking of tobacco-less cigs, I don't understand the point of decaf coffee. I always thought that coffee drinkers drink it because of the caffeine. Why drink the decaf stuff? Can't you think of something better to drink that tastes a lot better, like just about any kind of soda on the market? The only reason to drink decaf coffee is for the taste, which makes no sense because of the 8 gazillion other beverages out there that have a better taste.

I was in Milwaukee, WI, at a Radio Shack once and I bought a casette tape adapter. They asked me address as usual, and I gave them it. However, I live in Michigan, and the Radio Shack was in downtown Milwaukee, so when I told them the address they were a bit confused. They asked me what the address I gave them was: An apartment or a condo? I said no, a house. The guy stared at me and blinked. I had to repeat myself again before he realized that I actually lived in a house and not an apartment or whatever.
