You don't need to have it as a hobby. Most people listen by having enjoyable music playing while doing something else
I guess at this point I should mention a lifelong interest in making music, which includes composing and producing new material. It might explain why listening to music is kind of a problem - if it's somewhere in the background, it's either too interesting or too annoying, either way it takes a lot of my attention. I also like to avoid too much listening simply to keep my own musical ideas as intact as possible. It's really a double-edged sword, I enjoy music on a lot of levels, but I also get easily annoyed and distracted by bad, unwanted music.
For example, I can't stand working in an office where background music is playing. It's a bit like the idea of having naked women at the workplace - yes, I do enjoy watching them, but they are not exactly helping with the work. But I guess I'm generally the kind of person that really likes to focus on one thing at a time.
No. They ask it because you are literally a freak if you don't like any kind of music. There are people who don't feel, but it is common to ask someone how they are feeling. The reason is - what for it - if they don't have any feelings then they are a freak.
Hmm, actually, the really annoying question is "what kind of music do you listen to", as if everyone had a hobby of actively listening to music. Of course, most people are exposed to a lot of music, and they can form opinions without an active interest.
On another note, I think my relationship with music is rather complex, and I don't like giving a brief answer consisting of this or that popular genre.
Not only has mathematical ability been correlated with music, people who don't enjoy music scare me a little. Someone once said that liking at least one song by Nina Simone was a prerequisite for humanity. Shakespeare regularly had his antagonists show an indifference to music. I think he might have been on to something.
I don't listen to music very much, and it always annoys me when people ask "what kind of music do you like", as if it were some basic human need like eating. People like different things, and I sometimes resist the urge to ask "what programming language you prefer" or "which is better, Xilinx or Altera?" in return. Now, I actually enjoy music a lot, but I enjoy a bazillion other things too, and I don't want to spend a considerable part of my time consuming some product someone else made.
I could go on with a hundred more example. Just like all of them, TVs have a place. Yes, I can suck down media content anywhere, any time, but sometimes I actually like to FUCKING PAY ATTENTION to the movie on a big screen in a dark room with a superior sound system, sitting in a comfy chair with no interruptions.
I agree, this is exactly how I want my movies/video. But I don't see what this has to do with a TV, i.e. a combo of display with a tuner and toy speakers. Think about the VCR/TV combos of the past; do you want to replace a perfectly good display only to update the source format? This is what many people did when TV broadcasts switched from analog to digital.
This reminds me of the abomination called "computer speakers" from the 1990s. Some people still think the sound and picture quality are worse by definition if you "use a computer to watch movies" as opposed to dedicated systems (which, of course, have embedded computers running the show).
This ignores the versatility of the word "fuck" in English, which can be a verb, noun, adjective, and adverb all at the same time in the same sentence.
Perkele, I am told, is just as versatile.
vittuilla -- to fuck with someone
vituttaa -- to feel fucked up (originally meaning to crave for a fuck)
vittumainen -- a negative adjective, literally cunt-like
I can't think of verbifying perkele in any way. It's stronger than vittu, but far less versatile verbally.
In a way. I think there is a clear difference between hubris and self-confidence. Both enable you to take on challenges that you're not quite sure how you can complete. The difference is what happens when you realize things are going sour, and you need to admit failure and/or ask for help; this also takes certain self-confidence.
"the receiver on Earth will be large—about 6 to 8 km in diameter, positioned 5 to 10 meters above the ground. It will be constructed from millions of rectifier diodes—true quantum devices—wired together."
I had no idea they've been building quantum devices since the 1950's.
You know, we've had quantum mechanics since the 1920s or so. I'm not sure how much the first solid state diodes were based on quantum theory or simply empirical knownedge, but by the time the transistor was invented in 1948, they probably had a pretty solid (pun intended) idea about the role of quantum mechanics.
Seconded, with physics at Cambridge 1998-2002 and very similar experiences in Finnish universities. In both places, many courses provide handouts with the essential material, but it's still a good idea to attend lectures and take your own notes.
I did buy one book on mathematical methods, and I still use it as a reference occasionally. But buying a book for a single course, never to be used again? In fact, it is much more common in our secondary schools.
The next step, obviously, is to use the CPU to run Wine, thus solving the world's energy problems once and for all.

And server-side software to track them.
And in the darknets bind(2) them.
So I guess HAMR is still in the labs.
Stop - HAMR time. Isn't this basically what was used in Minidisc?
Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's the other way around.

Incidentally, my LCD monitor from 2004 is still great for HD video.
A bunch of ring oscillators in an FPGA is pretty good for RNG. Then you just have to trust the FPGA build software...
every little comic ray particle that hits the tape changes the recording
Funny, that.
I can or can't haz Heizenberger?
I just wanted to buy some spam, eggs, sausage and spam. I didn't expect a Spanish inquisition...
That's what shoe sed.
Q: What do you like doing during your off time?
A: I bowl, drive around, the occasional acid flashback.
Furthermore, "apu" means help as a standalone word, or helping/auxiliary as a prefix. So "apuprosessori" would mean a coprocessor.
Also, to nitpick a little, "kaveri" is more like a buddy, or even a (random) guy, as opposed to a close/true friend.
Also, you obviously need an Arduino to control a relay from a computer. A more direct connection just wouldn't be hipstery enough.

Developing a system of coordinates before you can actually travel - putting Descartes before the horse.
Somehow it claims it's "a sort of Ctrl-Z for the entire Internet".
Come back when it lets me undo posting Slashdot comments with mipselled words.
Ah, another little-endian MIPS user!
He's just terse. Want him a bit more verbose, shoot a few "-v" his way.
Well, the Finnish equivalent of the F word would be the V word...

Ion Canon
I think you mean "ion cannon" unless you're talking about the definitive collection of published works on ions.
Perhaps the GP meant Canon Ion.
