Personally, I don't care what format it is. As long as 1)I can do with it the same that I can do with mp3's 2)no less quality 3)other people use it.

I'm not going to switch all my mp3's over to .ogg if I'm going to be shooting myself in the foot and nobody uses it. Vqf's never caught on, I wish something else would catch on more. MP3's are so easy to get, I find it much more difficult to get .ogg music.

I would party if they went out of business and took all the morons that love their crap with them.

So which one of us is right?! :-)

You both are. Hard Drives are the most mechanical parts in a computer. Since they are mechanical in nature, manufacturing defects that may be in one drive and not in another, can and will cause problems for someone. Saying which is better is, like you said, an almost non-winnable fight.

For the record, I've had about 15 WD HDD's in the past 15years, 1 Segate, 1 Quantum, 2 Maxtor's. Both Maxtor drives (6.4gb and 10gb) have died within the first 2 years, normal use. The Segate and the Quantum (old 200mb and 240mb hdds) died... some time ago... most likely while they were being used as shimms under a very uneven rocking chair. Out of the 15 Western Digital hdd's, none have died while in my possession. One did die (1.6gb) about a year after I sold it to a neighbor. Well, to be more exact... I did have one 13gb WD that somehow developed about 30% bad sectors, but it was replaced within a week for free. I have grown to prefer WDC drives over the years and they are all I buy.
