  1. Don't forget .... on Matrox Parhelia Benchmarks and Review · · Score: -1
Most people are failing to mention that this is still a non-released card.

Another point that I think is very important to point out, this is the low end version of this card. There are going to be 3 flavors, this being the least spectacular. With the performance given aginst the top 2 cards on the market now, I would suspect that the next two flavors of this card will be even higher in performance.

No the new (unreleased) Matrox card does not always beat a GF4 or Radeon in all tests, it does give them a good fight. In any case, top FPS is not always a measure of performance. The low-end version of the Matrox card is fighting very well against the TOP cards.

For someone with a G450/G550 it would be a great upgrade for a gamer. I'll be getting one, probably the highend flavor.

Traditional firewall? You mean have an individual server for each server acting as a firewall in this test? While I bet the performace would be, ballpark, the same. But the cost for that would be amazing. In which case the "Firewall on a NIC" would win pretty easy. It's going to use less physical space, less power, less trouble shooting a whole other system.

Yes, it's useful and widespread to have a bunch of systems behind a firewall. But what if the attack starts on the inside? What's there to protect the other servers? Nothing.

  7. Re:Technology for its own sake on 3Com to Sell Firewall-in-a-NIC · · Score: -1
Well it is a real firewall. It's not a software based thing that can crash in windows. It's firmware for the card itself.

Thinking that it's pointless proves why you don't work for 3com. There is quite a big market out there that can benefit very much from something like this. Attacks from inside the network are there too. With no firewalls, the netwrok is wide open on the inside. For some people that's ok, but not everyone has your lackluster uses of a computer and actually really could use individual firewalls.

I have a friend that showed me how to get an entire primary Novell server up and running with 10 users in less than an hour, complete install from a fresh formated hard drive. Novell is bigger than most people really think.

I've talked with an amd tech support guy and he joked that intel's janitorial staff had technology and idea's that blew away amd's core developers. intel is to amd as Cadillac is to fisher price's big wheel.

AMD is the underdog. Intel has the upper hand. Intel has newer, better, more efficient, faster, more reliable technology inside their chips. An intel chip can sence that it's running too hot and slow itself down (P4's) ... an AMD will fry itself cause it's too stupid to try and protect itself.

True AMD's are cheaper, but they leave out tons of technology. There's more to a CPU than just mhz and how fast it goes. It's the little things that you don't see or even realize that puts intel years ahead of AMD.

I used to love AMD, till chip after chip would fail to work with certian hardware. Toss in an intel and fire it up no problem. Replace it with the AMD and watch it not even post.
