Er, I bought a MacBook Pro that even with a company discount was close to $3K while the same specced T61 was about $2k. I ended up trading the MacBook to a co-worker for the T61 because I just couldn't be productive on OSX after Linux. A quick look at the apple store does seem to show the machines priced much closer together now, but I still wouldn't tell anyone to buy a MacBook Pro just to run windows or linux.
Fink is hardly a replacement for apt-get, well at least if you want something to actually work. Now I am probably biased having used linux for 2 yrs on my laptop and just last week purchasing a MacBook Pro. Some things are truly awesome while others don't work at all. About half of the programs I have tried to install from Fink have failed to compile or install.
I am giving OSX a month and if I am not happy with it at that point, installing Ubuntu or trading it to a co-worker.
Jogging is great for a lot of things, but it kills me knees, putting me more at risk for needing surgery later on. Also depending on where you run, you possible could get run over, mugged, bit by a mosquito carrying west nile, pass out from heat exhaustion, slip and fall or be hit by lighting. I think the chart needs to be a lot more detailed!:)
A bit of shameless self promotion (since I am the lead developer), check out Eventum.
It might not be the perfect fit for you, but it is stable and customizable. Right now it is lacking built in customer management features, instead it relies on a Customer API to integrate with other systems. Right now I am working on integration with Sugar CRM but do not yet have an ETA on when it will be released.
Yeah, but not everyone wants to be crowded. I am all for people to live crammed together and take public transportation if that is what they want but it isn't for me. I don't even need the size of house I have now, I just want the trees and green space between me and my neighbors. I can turn my music up as loud as I want any time of the night or day and not bother anyone./bryan
Same thing happened to me many years ago with HP. The computer just started dieing after a month and all tech support would say is "reformat". Finally I got a much more persuasive friend then myself to call the office of the CEO. He spoke with the CEO's assistant and the next day everything was taken care of.
This is a shameless plug since I am the main developer, but you should look at Eventum. It was developed for the MySQL AB support team, and then released back to the community. That last release was quite some time ago but development is active. It is PHP / MySQL based and installs on most systems in just a few minutes. Here are some of the main features:
Auto-creation of new issues from email
Email integration - With proper setup, once an issue is created you can use issue-1234@yourdomain.example.com to send email to everyone on the issues notification list. This can be helpful since it allows the issue tracking system to keep track of all communication on an issue without being intrusive.
Command line interface - You can view details, change assignment, status, record time, etc from the command line instead of logging into the web interface.
Flexibility - Eventum can be extended / customized using the workflow API (Basically you can add custom code to be called when a certain event happens). Eventum also can be integrated with a CRM system.
Custom fields - You can define new fields from the web interface if you need a field Eventum doesn't provide out of the box.
The documentation is rather sparse, but there is an IRC channel and a mailing list where you can get any questions answered.
</shameless plug>
Lets see... my several year old treo 650 does that. I can put the caller I am talking to on hold, call someone else and join them together or conference in someone via call waiting. Not that fancy.
If you want to compare licensing guns to licensing cars, then here is a good point.
The government only licenses cars and drivers for use on public roads. I can go out and buy any vehicle I want, and as long as I only use it on private property, the government doesn't care. I don't need brake lights, airbags or anything else the government requires, as long as I only use the vehicle on private property. It is once I take it onto public roads that the government cares.
This should be true for guns as well. What I do on my private property on my business, as long as I don't endanger people around me. So in a residential neighborhood I should be able to keep any firearm I like, but not discharge them (as it poses a danger to those around me). However, if I am out in the middle of nowhere (again on private property) I should be able to discharge any firearm I like. However, if I want to carry a loaded weapon with me in public, the state government should be able.
In my state this is true. If I wanted to carry a concealed handgun, I would have to pass a background check, go through a safety course and pass a test. In addition, once I was issued a license I would be subject to a stricter set of rules when carrying the weapon.
I love digikam, but I also want to be able to use it (atleast browse/search by tags) from windows. For now I am using Picasa, since it runs on both Linux and Windows.
I was using my treo on the last flight without any problems. A flight attendant did ask if it was switched off, and I said the phone was off and she accepted that. Any phone that can clearly say "Flight Mode" or "Phone Off" will not be a problem.
Come on, if MySQL is not free for commercial use, neither is Linux! They both are available under the GPL. The difference is companies have MORE choice in using MySQL.
It only supports INSERT and SELECT operations, but you can easily prevent reading from it if you want. However, no one, not even root can change or delete the data from inside of MySQL. You of course could physically delete the database from the command line, but you can do that with prettymuch everything.
I had this problem as well, and i didn't have nearly the amount of mail you did (I just migrated my work account that was ~ 1 yr old, but then again I get A LOT of mail.
My solution was to purge some old folters (cron output, trash, etc) to get the size down. Then I compacted the PST files (File -> Data File Management -> Settings -> Compact Now). It still was painful, but it managed to get through it.
It takes a little while to get used to the change, but I love Thunderbird now, especially quickfile. It allows me to quickly drop a message in the correct folder, without expanding the folder tree (or using a mouse).
Just curious, how much did your XPMCE cost? I am guessing it was a tad bit more then $50 from circuit city. Also, did you have to spend any time to set it up to work with dual tuners?
As a final bit of information, please list all the reasons it is 500 times better. I *REALLY* want to see all these reasons.

Sounds like you want this + a large amount of consulting. Seriously, call a sales rep. I am sure MySQL will take as much money as you want to spend.

I encourage anyone who cares about privacy (and many other issues) to look into voting for Ron Paul.

No, of course he isn't perfect but atleast he is different.
DEAR GOD NO!!!!

Yeah, I want all fiber running in one place so the backhoe can take it out in one fell swoop.

What will the insurance be like on these? Cingular refuses (or atleast used to) insure my treo 650. I want some damn good insurance for $500 phone!
How was his funeral?

Sweet, 10GB XML file attached to my email. WOOO HOOO! :)
Ah, that is why I have a flashlight on my shotgun...

Uh, my Tivo does this already.

MySQL actually has a storage engine like what you want, "Archive".
