Yes, it is. It appeals to the most basic of instincts, a direct link to the brain stem. Why even question anything that works so well?

Quid pro quo always travels full circle.

  7. You're still left with the fact that there are encryption algorithms out there that, if properly implemented, are effectively unbreakable before the heat death of the Universe...

Yes, but so far they remain undiscovered by man. Encryption is just another "sound barrier" to periodically break through. The cat and mouse game is indefinite.

Well, it's not really my "righteous cause", but I will quote you this:

What is more important in world history? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some agitated Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the cold war?

I would say the ploy is working, "righteousness" doesn't really enter the picture.

  11. Well, if we didn't have California, you and I both know what would be done, because we already 'done' it more than 180 years ago. A shortage is nothing more than an argument over the price. We don't do desalination because they say it's too expensive, I don't believe it is, but I have no way to force the issue. I remember the drought of '77. Now, almost 40 years later, the only thing being shown to the world is a perfect example of bad, corrupt management. Still, everybody bickers over price, and nothing gets produced, while lawyers get rich. And it is so weird that they have the very same governor now as they did back then. I can't fathom what the voters are thinking. They are using something other than their brain.

The most successful part of this circus is that it completely kept all thought out of having any "third party" candidate. The monolith has attained its goal of absolute power.

*sigh* Only the non-voter block has the majority to vote them all out, but they are also the ones being targeted by the above mentioned pressure.
