Some people don't like them, but I've been using one for almost half a decade now and I've come to quite like it. Normally I use the one on a MacBook, but you can get them wired and wireless to use with PCs. I like the little wireless one, it has just the keys I need.

  6. A Sad Day on Dennis Ritchie, Creator of C Programming Language, Passed Away · · Score: 1

Steve Jobs did a lot, and got a lot of media attention. DMR also did a lot (and in some ways, a lot more), but understandably gets less attention. This is because the general public doesn't really grok Unix and C, while they understand Macs and iPhones. But I'm a programmer, have been for a long time. *I* understand DMR's contributions. And so I am sad to hear of his passing.

As I was sitting in the cinema last night about to watch Ep3, I was saying the exact same thing to my friend. I want to sit at home and watch this on my home theatre, and I'll pay for that so I don't have to drive to the theatre, get tickets, wait, and watch the film with idiots all around me and unable to pause it to go to the washroom. I couldn't bring my wife because someone has to watch the kids. It's just damned inconvenient.

I want a solution that will put a film on my TV, within a day if not within minutes, at a price between a DVD rental and a movie ticket. And I want to choose from a huge catalogue of movies, more than my local video stores have. I'm not interested in the latest Adam Sandler movie, I want to watch obscure foreign films and the occasional blockbuster.

    I'll pay for it.

Don't blame the lack of research, even on the net I still read conflicting reports regarding this TV. Some Sony reps still say it upconverts, when in fact it downconverts. How can research possibly have helped here?

  15. Sony Rear Projection TV on When is 720p Not 720p? · · Score: 1

Tell me about it. I got a 46" Sony widescreen rear projection TV, supposedly HD-ready.

It will accept a 720p signal, but DOWNCONVERTS it to 480p for display. This is only noted as a footnote in the user manual.

What use is that? We've been suckered.

When I originally read the synopsis of K-PAX before it was released, I immediately said "Oh, they re-made Man Facing Southeast as a Hollywood movie."

Imagine my surprise when I later discovered the filmmakers denied this, claiming an original work.

The consensus is that they basically ripped off MFSE without saying so. Even though Blockbuster rented MFSE in their foreign section, I guess they assumed nobody really saw it. (I know they said they based it on a different book.)

  25. Red (Spoiler) on Philip K. Dick's Hollywood Afterlife · · Score: 1

In Red, there is a bit of a parallel lives thing going on just like in The Double Life of Veronique.

Basically, the young lawyer's life mirrors that of the retired judge. Little details, such as receiving a pen, or the books falling open to an important test question, are the same. So are the relationships with the women. One begins to wonder if it is mere coincidence, or if there is actually some connection between the two.

I found that element to be somewhat Dickian, although I'd say the entire movie in itself isn't necessarily Dickian, not like Man Facing Southeast.
