text is too low a bitrate for me... I get bored easly.
also, I have an hypothesis. People with Myopia usually like to read , because upclose they see better, with less effort. I have hypermetropia, and for me to focus on near objects requires a lot of effort giving me huge asthenopia (even with the correct glasses). And because of that I hate to read long books.
audio-books are even worse... I can't concentrate on a guy reading a dumb text in a monotone voice. and when they have actors, they usually suck

  12. spread spectrum frequency domain watermarking on Digital Watermarks to Replace DRM · · Score: 2, Interesting

I developed a very basic spread spectrum frequency domain watermarking that can resist to reencoding and be very transparent spreading the bits of information across different frequencies. if you analyze the encoding, you can use the frequencies that the encoder gives more importance and store bits there for increased reenconding strength. or you can use less important frequencies to really hide the watermarking, and also assure that the audio wasn't reencoded or touched. the spread spectrum technology can assure that you distort the minimum amount possible each frequency. and by choosing random frequencies for each audio frame, based on a pseudo-random number generator, you can really hide the watermarking... using CDMA techniques , if you don't know what you are looking for, when comparing the watermarked audio with a clean sample, you will only recover some noise.

  15. play more than once on The Importance of Portal · · Score: 3, Insightful

there is only a handfull of games I play more than once (besides shmups) and Portal is one of them... this game is simply perfect in the true sense of the word, as in complete. self contained. completely done.

the story that is presented to you at the begining is as simple as it should be, since you are actually in a test enviroment. the truth is never fully revealed. you have to break the walls and try to discover the truth behind this perfect, clean enviroment. and as always in distopian sci-fi, the truth is much more crude and evil. and perhaps that isn't even the whole truth.

the simple fact that at the end you can beat the test masters is a 180 shift in storytelling. it's another level of freedom to turn the test around and defeat the testers.

very very few games can capture your imagination as this...

the answer to the question "is this art?" is a simple one. How Portal made you feel ? If you felt something, it's art.

I played the beta UT3 demo, and despite the awsome graphics, I didn't felt anything.

the team behind half life 2, ep 1 and 2 and portal are true artist. you really feel something when you play those games.

and also, the cake is a lie. (this is another example that Portal is art. this phrase will be in our minds forever.)

This is one of the reasons the world is so interested in the Amazon Forest. And as usual, our own governants will sell out our goods to the rest of the world so they can personally enrich. That's why I say Brazil should elect me as our President.. too bad I am not 35 years old yet... you have to be 35 to be a candidate for president here... if I were the president, I would close our borders for 5 years while we develope a massive mineral and industrial park so we can enrich that uranium and sell at all time high prices for the rest of the world. We should do this to all other minerals, such as bauxite, that is used to produce aluminum. Too bad Brazil is too dumb to elect me as their ruler... I would close the congress, and close the judiciary system and decide the life and death to the citizens. and the ministry of truth would make everyone happy. it would be a perfect world... poor children would be enlisted on the army at age 6, so they could have propper care and education, while enlarging our army (just like sparta). rich people would "donate" their money so the country can grow, but they would feel like they are really part of it, and not being ripped off. it would be a great nation... too bad it's only a dream... but 7 more years and then I will be able to run for president.. you will see... and don't worry, I don't want war with other countries.. but don't try to undermine our sovereignty. we will fight to the end !
