Ok. COps deny a lawyer, because they are attempting to sweat a confession. Hours later, after filling him with coffe and water, they deny him use of the bathroom. They get their confession after hours of interrogation. But he requested a lawyer. No confession. He goes free. State cannot prosecute. State does NOT prosecute. This guy wins the criminal lottery and goes free?
Not only should he go free, but the cops who trampled on the constitution should be fired and imprisoned for the same amount of time as the accused would have done if he had been convicted.
sometimes I wonder if I've slipped into a Greek morality play. "The PS3 is actually pretty cheap", "We'd sell 6 million consoles even without games", "$599 US dollars", "Giant enemy crabs"... Sony is ripe for a fall.
Don't forget their intentionally installing malware on customer's machines, and continuous pushing of proprietary technology over open standards. I'm amazed that anyone still buys anything from Sony.
In order to get enough liquid explosives on a plane to blow it up they would either have to all be terrorists on the plane or they would have to carry 5 gallon drums of the stuff. The stuff our government is claiming terrorists were planning on using only exists in movies. If there really was an attack being planned the planners are complete idiots and all they would have accomplished is burning a bunch of people, but they would not have taken planes down.
You miss the point. The objective of these terrorists was not to bring down the plane, or even to burn people. The objective was to terrorize; to cause mass panic; to force us to all take off our shoes before we get on the plane; to force us all to check our carry-on bags, and throw out our water and toothpaste before the flight. Looking at the results, this was the most spectacularly successful terrorist attack in a while.
The truth is that a corporations conscience (if it even has one) is displayed in it's actions
no. The truth is that corporations don't have a conscience. Morality is irrelevant to them, and all they can do is whatever they believe will maximize profit.
Anyone have the quote from the Star Trek movie (I forget which one) where someone explains the origin of the word "Sabotage"? That was funny as hell when I saw it (although it might have been because I was drunk at the time)
I'm not sure how other folks do it, but in my year in a dorm, I introduced my roommate to my girlfriend's roommate, and they seemed to get along well enough that by the end of the year, girlfriend and roommate had basically traded rooms.
Google is one of the good guys (along with Apple and Nintendo). Always will root for the good guys over evil such as Microsoft, Sony, Yahoo et al. (Yes, I know I see the world in black and white)
The problem is that small businesses that are really really good at what they do start to grow, and a handful of them turn into those giant unfeeling corporations that we loathe. From personal experience, I think the slide into corporate oblivion starts when the first MBAs join the company. An MBA is literally training on how not to be a human being. Business schools rob students of their humanity, and teach them only to worship short term profits. There is nothing wrong with focusing on making a profit, thats the engine that drives our economy, but these MBA grads that are being manufactured don't appear to be able to think long term, either at the long term sustainability of a company, or the long term sustainability of humanity.
This seems like a last desperate attempt by the media companies to keep kids from embracing media and communication methods that effectively circumvent the media monopolies. If kids can create and share their own content, why would they pay the giant media conglomerates for stuff thats not even as good?
There are several things that would convince me that creationism is true and not evolution. The most obvious would be if God came and spoke to me in a burning bush. I know that sounds facetious, but it's really not; that really would do it.
I've thought about this one, and a burning bush or being spoken to directly by God probably wouldn't do it for me. It would be far more likely that I was experiencing a hallucination or some other psychological phenomena, which is probably a good reason for God to pick someone other than me if He decides to reveal Himself to humanity (again).
I was thinking about how much water is wasted each morning waiting for the shower to get to the right temperature, and it occurred to me that much of that water could be saved if the temperature could be set before turning on the water. The interface could be as simple as 4 buttons: (On/Off, C/F, Warmer, Colder) and a display just large enough for a 2 digit number representing the temperature. After the first time you set it, you know what temperature you like your shower to be at, and on each subsequent shower, you only need to press any button to activate the display, then the up/down arrow to adjust the temperature, and the On button to turn on the water once you have confirm that its at the correct temperature. I know nothing about plumbing, so I'm not sure how it would actually work, but you would at least be able to get rid of those unsightly knobs and have a flat wall there. Am I dreaming, or is this possible?
Unfortunately for society, the vast majority (95%+) of people who are indoctrinated with religious nonsense at an early age continue to believe it all through their lives.
You still have that option. Just walk to the back of the store with your wad of cash (try not to get mugged on the way) and you can happily pay in any denomination of legal tender. No personal information required.
They are just trying to find a way to reduce the lineup at a busy time. Is that such a bad thing?
So what would it take for the EFF to write some legislation and get it passed? (With the support of the Slashdot community.) If it was well written and important legislation, I'd pledge $50. Who's with me?
Monopolizing refers to the manner of conducting business which hurts other competitors.
Not exactly. It refers to hurting competition, not competitors. Hurting competitors is what every business does when they sell their product instead of someone else's. Hurting competition is what Microsoft does, and it damages the marketplace.
Who is complaining?
All they need to do is advertise how much cool WiiStuff you can get for the price of the PS3.
(Anyone done the math? How many games, accessories, etc can you get for that price? What is your ultimate WiiBundle for the price of a PS3?)

OK, got to mod this one funny
I think this guy might live nearby...
Now all we need is a system that captures the hot air expelled on Slashdot, and we could achieve energy independence!
So what you're saying is, "Google Earth helped a geek get laid"?
Sounds like the beginnings of a marketing campaign, if I ever heard one...

Makes sense to me, since Slashdot is nothing more than CmdrTaco's personal blog.
Why are people getting free stuff with my tax dollars??

So is it time to create a new organization, with similar interests, with the expressed intent of lobbying congress?

And we all have an interest in her winning.
Where can I make a donation to her legal defense fund?
And why has the EFF not taken up the case?
