Yep, I am now a happy CenturyLink fiber subscriber.
It is DSL from the street to my apartment, but my modem shows 1000Mbps connection speed.
speedtest.net only gives me ~600Mpbs down and ~900Mbps up but that beats the crap out of the other cable and VDSL options.
As a matter of fact, the cable provider in my area (Minneapolis, MN) only offers a max of 20Mbps. VDSL offers up to 60Mbps. So, at least around here, DSL is the way to go until CenturyLink starts offering more fiber to the curb.
I still prefer physical books when it comes to technical references. It just seems easier to me to have a 3 dimensional object where I can see all my book marks and can thumb directly to the page I want.
I prefer my pleasure reading to be in e-ink form. I like having an entire library of books in a single small device. Plus the backlight makes this the best low light reading option I have ever encountered.
The only thing that needs to happen now is to get rid of the artificially high price of some e-books... publishers keep parity with paperback book on books they know they can get away with it on.... no suppy/demand determining the price... just "we got you over a barrel and we can exploit that" BS...
It's kind of weird the way this was implemented but I like the notion.
I think that if you are willing to work, you should be able to support yourself comfortably. I am not sure that absolutely equal pay for everyone is exactly right although I do think that people who quit over having someone else make as much as them is pretty petty and entitled.
I would personally not care one bit if a fast food worker got paid as much as me or more.... good for them, I wouldn't want to do that job so why would I complain?
This is exactly the point of doing the "unlimited" time off policies.
Sort of the same as "pay what you want" services or products.
Guilt is a powerful emotion.
The company can say they have "unlimited" x and employees feel proud to have "unlimited" x and people who abuse the system will be dealt with... all around win by simple exploitation of guilt...
If you could alter meth to be less of a "keep you up for days" thing, the judgment would be a lot less impaired. The impairment comes from lack of sleep and the hallucinations that brings.
Tone down the super amphetamine aspect but leave the enhanced sexual pleasure aspect and you have yourself a real drug there...
As alcohol has proven, most people use drugs responsibly because there are social and economic pressures to do so.
Legalize drugs, make a huge revenue stream on taxation of said drugs and now you don't have an entire army to employ and equip and you put the people you are currently fighting against out of business.... It really seems like a no-brainer
what does your average person need with that kind of connection?
For streaming HD content.
I get it that network border peering agreements have a lot to do with things, but it seems as though even with a 50+Mbps Internet connection, I was still encountering reduced performance at times.
Since going to Gigabit, I have not had any issues at all.
I don't utilize most of the bandwidth personally, but I do carve out a DMZ for public WIFI access that my neighbors can use (I live in an apartment building).
Our organization recently decided to go with Microsoft Dynamics Online. We (IT) didn't really get much of a say in it.
However, what we did was use the initiative as a platform for our own move to expand the cloud deployments from just CRM users to all users.
We are now well on our way to migrating off of on-prem Exchange and a mixed Office 2003 - 2010 environment to an Office 365 solution.
So, in effect, we took an project spearheaded by sales and turned it into a benefit for all users.

I don't know. I have 1Gpbs G.fast DSL in my apartment.
Last I checked, I couldn't even get 100Mbps cable speed.
I thought, at first that this was about buying a MacBook for the hardware quality and then wipe/install Windows 10.
I was ready for a good Apple vs Microsoft slashwar.... ah well...
We don't currently have the technology to keep a bunch of loose leaf pages bound together though....

It is one thing to inject the malicious update, but it would still need to be approved for install, correct?
In our environment, I have multiple "rollout" groups which I release updates to over the course of the month.
The first group is, obviously, a testing group. But even with that, I research each update before approval.
Also, I have the automatically approve superseded updates and automatically update the WSUS server options turned off.
It seems to me that these are the basic practices that any admin would use....
Yes, you are right, bad analogy.
But anyway, as long as I don't take a pay cut... why would I care?
It is none of my business what other people make... as long as I have what I need to get by, I couldn't care less who makes what.
I am not better than anyone else. I learn new things from all kinds of different people every day no matter their age....

Well... we are parasites.... no question about it...
I will just barely have finished the Tanan Jungle grind by the time this expansion comes out...
Of course, I am a complete casual who is all about the achievements and hardly ever raid or pvp...

I guess the low-tech solution would be to just cover the open yards with some kind of mesh.
Hmmm... I hear sound waves are also effective against drones...
Couldn't agree more.

You are at the office, about to hit the enter key.
You look across the room to where the Internet Police officer is sitting.
He has his usual scowl and does the two finger point from his eyes to yours and shakes his head back and forth ever so slightly.
You gulp and hit the backspace key.
Leader types just get all the credit because they are out in front taking the risks and enduring the public.
However, they would be nothing without the legions of support behind them.
I, personally, am a follower, I accept this. I know that I will never be "successful" in that sense but I am comfortable in my anonymity.
In theory...
I mean, so many worlds to choose from. Way more than Marvel and DC combined.
Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Planescape, Dark Sun, Spelljammer, Ravenloft....
Each with several (in some cases dozens) of big recognizable series...
Man, I would love to see Soth, knight of the black rose (with an Opeth sound track) or the dark elf saga or the legend of huma... the list goes on!
If they could be done well, this could generate tons of interest in my age bracket (2nd edition!)
It sounds like you had a great time... yet it also seems as though you hate your wife... I can see how you have conflicted feelings over this movie...

Seriously though, who prints stuff outside of work anyway?
Perhaps a drone shooting automated turret at the airport is in order.
It could also take out those pesky geese!

hey, in this country we do things by capitalism.
the market selects the best, most efficient solution, every time.
and since by definition, the best solution is what the market selects, we
are perfect. absolutely perfect.
so stop second guessing the market and take your socialist whining
somewhere else
I couldn't have said it better.
