You missed the point. Challenger happened because it was more important to stick to the schedule than listen to the engineers. Where the fuck do you think beaurocraps have changed? They make decisions based on PR and budget and have ignored people who know what they are doing for years. Why was today different?

The sad thing is, when the investigation is over it will turn out to be a stupid decision by a NASA chief, just like Challenger. If there was left wing damage, park it at the space station until another can go uo to take parts for repair or just to pick up the crew. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. Of course NASA group think won't allow planning for intelligent alternatives to catastrophy. Now they get the budget boost to fix things. Hell of a way to do business.

Jack Schmitt is on of the good guys. I first met him in Washinton, DC in February 1980. I stopped off to see if anything could be done about the pitiful state of military pay, I had just left the Navy. Since Jack was a rookie Senator from New Mexico, (my home state at the time) and was on the Armed services comitee. I went to his office. Bottom line, no appointment, an honest 40 min. of face time. An 11.5 % pay raise in October, and he got a campaign worker for 82. We lost, which really sucks. Jack was not only the lone scientist to walk on the moon but the only civilian. Never in the military at all. I've seen him twice in the last 20 years and he is still a friendly and interesting man. One of the good guys for sure.

Pop-up stopper is wonderful and I have had it for four months. Wouldn't log on without it. It might be better to take a more proactive stance. How about a script attached to an advertisers 'cookie' that causes the server drives to re-format? Or one to cause a bios flash. Change the voltages, I wonder what a P4 would look like with 12 volt running through it? Is this possible? Probably. Legal? Not a chance. Fun? Hell yes. Worth it? Hummm, maybe.

I use Koffice now and in Win xp use Lotus Smartsuite, never owned or used MS office.

Its a question of balance. The plastic is obviously of unequal density around the platter. This creates a harmonic vibration. Check all your cds for cracks starting at the center and radiating out. Make a copy of any cracked ones and retire them before they come apart. Or manufacturers could balance them before shipping.

Contrary to what the media has portrayed for 30 years, the Pentagon has some very smart people. At least those in Uniform. Perhaps the problem is that the military like NSA has gotten tired of 3 U software, (unstable, unreliable and most important, unsecure). Has MS ever done anything right on the first four tries? After all what is Win XP but Win 95 seven years late.

Nice thought. I wonder if I'm the only one who remembers this same cry from RIAA 30 years ago. They said a new technology would destroy the recording industry.
