  1. Re:Lack of Property Rights on R.I.P., Cape Wind (bostonglobe.com) · · Score: 1

    I am from the state and have friends from the area. What he did is just being creepy. There might have been some laws broken. There might not. The statute of limitations is up so it's a non-starter.

    Here's the problem: Had he done this the smart way he would have just apologized for possible transgression in his younger years and moved on. It would have quickly faded into the background of political noise. He didn't. What he did do is expose himself as a liar, hypocrite, and unethical. He said the other day that alcohol was illegal in Etowah County in 1979. According the the local paper, it was legalized on 2 May,1972. He has made numerous other comments that are a record of fact that are incorrect or skewed. We have also found out that he dated his current wife while representing her in a divorce case. This alone should have him disbarred because further research has proven this was a pattern. As judge, he was twice removed from the bench because of his ethics. He is also under investigation for inappropriate payments taken from his non-profit. The investigation is ongoing. I don't really care if the signature is a fake. He's lied enough for me to not vote for him. Regardless of the ancient accusation.

    On another note: As a male victim of sexual harassment and attempted sexual assault in my youth, I have no reason to doubt these women. If their accusations are true, they will remember the events like they happened yesterday for the rest of their lives. All the more reason to give them credence.

    And whom might I pay for this faster internet speed? Spectrum and AT&T don't seem to want my money, or at least, provide it. I live 2 blocks from a major medical research facility and I have 25mb AT&T for $75 or 50mb Spectrum $99. Bundled. I stopped at 12 for $50 since I couldn't tell the difference in the two and I could only have the higher with Uverse. Which I don't want. My next option is business fiber: 12k to run it and $1600 a month for 100mbs. Is this a viable option?

  5. I've had that happen with newer ones also. It will most likely fall apart in a few years. This is the last circuit in the house to be rewired and is slated to be done in the next few months.

    Stay away from anything in the 60's and 70's especially Federal Pacific. This is probably where your bang came from:

  6. My house was built in 1917. I still have four of the original switches that work (I can only assume since I'm not that old) as good as the day they were put in. I see no reason to replace them. They'll wear out one day and get replaced then. No point adding unnecessary crap to the landfill. You can actually repair them if you're inclined.

    Getting Neil M. Gorsuch confirmed to the Supreme Court;
    The significant drop-off in illegal immigration crossings (from an already low level);
    Neither the world nor the Constitution has been destroyed yet;
    Progress in the Middle East campaign against the Islamic State;
    A solidly growing economy."

    A 30-06 is not piddly It has been used to attain confirmed kills past 1000 yds.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
    Hathcock's second-longest confirmed kill was 1200 yards (1097 m) using a "standard" USMC sniper rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield

    A few hunters do regularly pull off shots at 300+ yds. This is not the norm. Most hunters rarely fire over 100 yds. They are calm and have every advantage on their side. Now add someone shooting back. It adds a whole level of stress and add the fact you have to find them.

    It you are not "combat experienced" or have a high level of military/SWAT training you will not even be able to find the target, let alone have enough where-with-all to be able to aim and place an accurate shot. Most military and law enforcement train for this. And they usually use a piddly 30-06 or the even more piddly .308 (7.62 x 51mm which has a confirmed kill at 1,367 yds)

    Sure, we can basically claim the surveillance state started with the advent of the telephone and telegraph. We know that there was a big jump in surveillance after WWII with the cold war. There was also another big jump in domestic spying related to the war on drugs. This wasn't about the history of domestic spying. The comment was in response to a domestic surveillance program started under the Bush II administration:

    I participated in an event like this many years back. We played a group of "unlikeables" and hide out in an old semi-abandoned project in an industrial part of town. The unit was doing a workup to deploy and the city i was in was of a similar composition. They used their capabilities to find about a dozen locations we were hiding in and then proceeded to take out the necessary targets. It took about two weeks. There were lots of calls to the local police and FBI about the activity. I don't know if it ever made it to the local media. Man it freaked some people out.
