i blame it all on Ieve and Iserpent.

  3. sell them? on Looking for a Better Back-Up Power Solution? · · Score: 1

one thing: how dead are the batteries? if they'll hold any charge at all, you may just be able to sell them on ebay, make a few bucks. at least you may have a bit more cash to spend on the disposall of the really dead batteries. one other hting a friend of mine does is wire his ups's to deep cycle car batteries, they don't mind deep discharging , and you can almost always return the dead ones after you buy replacements, also, they'll increase the uptime of your ups (he has four deep cycles which will run his whole system for a day and a half or so on a 3kw apc ups)
    anyway, just some cognitive fodder.

You want good exercise while gaming? well, if merely lifting an x-box controller isn't enough for you, why not hook the tv and game system up to a treadmill, so that you generate the power you use (i would recommend a ups in case you have to use the bathroom before reaching a save point.)

  6. Remote alarm clock on Alarm Clocks for Heavy Sleepers? · · Score: 1

Just do what i did, go to walmart and buy the loudest alarm clock they have, then pull the buzzer out and solder on 20 feet of zip line so you can put the buzzer in your bedroom, and the snooze button in another, works great for me, i have to get up and go into the living room to turn of the alarm, and by that time, i'm up. (it helps that im in a dorm, so i have to get dressed to leave my bedroom)
another one that i thought of was to put the alarm in a box that required a button to be held down for 30 sec before it would open.

  7. the wizard of oz on Ultimate DVDs for Parties? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I'm sure you've all heard of this, but if you obtain a copy of the wizard of oz, and a copy of dark side of the moon, and start the album with the lion's roar on the mgm logo, the movie and album sync up perfectly. slighty, ot, but i have done this at parties to rave reviews. does anybody know of any other interesting combinations?

  8. the 'quatsi trilogy on Ultimate DVDs for Parties? · · Score: 1

There's a film called koyannisquatsi (koy-on-ees-cot-see), otherwise titled "life out of balance" which is a good film to show in the background, with or without the original soundtrack. it's the first in a trilogy. the latest one , nagoyquatsi (sp?) is available at most blockbusters.
other than that, im a big fan of invader zim, it syncs up to music really well.

  9. pollutants (Esp pesticides) effect developement on Measuring Pollution In Humans · · Score: 1

One interesting addendum to this article is a study performed on two groups of four year old mexican chiildren: one from a valley where crops were grown(high pesticide exposure) and one from an adjacent mountain (low pesticide exposure). the children were asked to perform simple tasks, such as drawing a stick figure person, or trees, etc. the mountain children(low pesticide exposure) exhibited normal developement, and illustrated basic creativity whereas the valley children(high pesticide exposure) could barely draw at all, only producing meaningless lines and squiggles, nothing resembling a pattern. of additional interest is that many of the reseachers noted that many of the valley children were zombie-like, not really able to pay attention to anything.

  10. Slightly OT, but this works both ways. on Measuring Pollution In Humans · · Score: 1

Interesting that the article focuses on pollutants being found in humans' bodies, but alot of medicines people take pass straight through our systems as well (Addreal, birth control, antibiotics) and accumulate in local watersheds. it has been the topic of at least one study, things like decreased fish population from too much BC in the water (esp. near college campuses) as before , i know this is OT, but it's important to realize this kind of thing goes in a circular pattern.

A much lower cost version of this can be made from PVC pipe. using a lawn sprikler solenoid valve and a tire stem one can make a single-shot air cannon for under $50 (under$100 if you want to get fancy) i've used these in the past, and my air cannon can shoot a D size battery about 500 yards (with a 45 degree tilt for optimum ballistics) the t-shirt model was built to launch t-shirts into the crowds at stadiums,my favorite mods are confetti, big feathers (you expect a big BANG, but you get a little tickle!), just filling the barrel with water (About two quarts, you'll have to brace it on your hip, but nothing beats it in a water fight) and using a 4 inch barrel and sabots to launch toilet paper (you can unroll an entire roll in the air) anyway, these are a much better alternative to your usual potato cannon. i do like the use of the high pressure sprayer valve for using co2, that opens up many more options.

...3) Next was Gibson's infamous purchase of Opcode Systems, a few years back. Opcode was a primary manufacturer of music software and hardware at the time - one of the best. They created the OMS standard, which the Mac music community was widely dependent on. They promised Opcode's then-owner an opportunity to start a little R&D Group and come up with a few new things. The whole thing died in an acrimonious lawsuit, and in the offing, Gibson destroyed Opcode, and OMS. What a waste...

to my knowledge, opcode systems is still alive and kicking, and i believe they are making hardware again. i put pro tools free on my g3 laptop yesterday, and OMS (open music system) came right along with it. as well as some opcode plugins for pt free.

...From my current standpoint, editing is crap. Protools gave us Britney Spears...

record execs, song writers, ed mcmann, and a vocal Harmonizer gave us Britney Spears. Pro tools was just the medium. that's like saying the internet brought us porn. porn was around waay before the internet. so were pop stars and boy bands around before pro tools (remember new kids on the block and debbie gibson?)

pro tools just made it easier for everybody to do what they wanted to with their music. and it wasn't a magical solution, either: recording studios have been moving away from tape for awhile now. pro tools is just the industry leader.

  25. Re:Cheap home recording!! on Gibson to Embed Guitars with Ethernet · · Score: 1

What you're friend and possibly the things you've ready about line level signals is probably the difference between home and pro equipment. line level for home equipment is -10dbu, and pro equipment is +4 dbu, for a difference of 14 db, which is substantial.
that being said, the two are not totally incompatible. some solutions to adapt this are: go to your local electronics store and buy an inline volume control for headphones, this will work to lower the level of your guitar's line out, and help to keep from frying your sound card, just turn the volum down untill there is little distortion. a safer bet would be to acquire a 20 db antenuator, which can look like alot of things, but can also be inline. there are also several converters that will go from =4dbu to -10 dbu and back, but these are more expensive. one other option you could use (which makes a good backup amp as well) is to take a tape adapter for a cd player, ya know, the cassette with the headphone cord coming out. and hook your guitar up to that, then put the tape into the tape deck and hit play. presto, you can play your guitar in your car, or anywhere else with a tape deck. of course, this is not the mos desirable option, as you will get alot of noise from the tape mechanism and such, but it will work in a pinch.

if your amp has a headphone jack, you could also use that to adapt to your computer, and just adjust the level on that. you could also probably use a phonograph preamp to connect to your computer.
