    A lot of missile defense work is *still* going on in Huntsville. While there are a fair number of imports, I can attest that there are locals (well, at least "locals" from Alabama and surrounding states) that work there.

    What's holding back the paperless office? Flipping FAX MACHINES. I work for a multi-billion dollar international bank and if faxes stop working there is no end to the screaming and whining. Kinda sad that in the 21st Century banking is still done using technology from 1994.

    AIG was the conduit by which billions of US taxpayer dollars made their way to foreign companies. They also looked the other way when banks were trading worthless Mortgage-Backed securities - if they were doing their jobs, their risk assessment group would have dropped the banks' policies like a hot potato.

    You're forgetting the tax advantages of being part of an employer group. If you buy insurance on your own, you do so with after-tax dollars. If you buy through your employer, you do so with before-tax dollars, reducing your overall tax burden (and that of your employer, since their payroll taxes get a break). The Federal government caused the mess of a health care system we have, it strikes me as absurd to expect them to be able to fix it in any meaningful way.

    And if you itemize deductions, you can take a tax deduction on every dollar you pay in Health Insurance premiums.

    ...the copyright date is 1986. Back then, ADD was on nobody's radar screen, and certainly not pills for it, and anybody hearing about a child being on pills for any mental disease would have been horrified, and had no idea what this strip was about. Putting children on speed for ADD was a meme that blew up in the 90s.

    I dunno, I was on Ritalin for ADD from ages 6 to 14 (1981-1989)... Perhaps your timing is a decade behind?

    No doubt. Just bought a kick-ass Acer system, from Best Buy of all places. PC and 19" LCD monitor for $426 US (including tax) out the door. Could not have built a comparable system myself for as little.
