    Go look at Africa to see what happens when there's no control.

    Funny thing is, the problems in Africa have absolutely nothing to with the population. Hell, they have a low population for the amount of arable land on that continent. Their problems stem from the thugs and olgiarchs and kleptos running the various governments in Africa, If you could get good leadership, the population on that continent could greatly expand with out harming the land.

    Amen to this. Democrats think we can balance the budget by taxing more, and spending more. Republicans think we can balance the budget by cutting welfare programs, while ignoring the biggest welfare program of them all, the US military. These indicate that there will be no possible political solution. An economic solution will happen, but people might not like it. I am not even sure that taxing more and spending less will work, because there is no political will to do so. Science is and always will be a back-burner issue, sadly.

    As opposed to all of the other tax-loophole structures that the Dems supported? As for off-shoring, what of NAFTA? That was a Clinton initiative. Take the blinders off, man.     Progressive means your goal is to fix what is wrong

    This only works if you believe that your solution will fix something that is inherently broken. I keep hearing people in parts the spectrum you mention saying how they are the ones with the right solution. Every time they get power though, it keeps getting worse.

    Where would those of us whom do not believe in even the possibility of good government (no matter who is in charge), fit into your neat categories there?

    I always found arguments like this odd: aren't our rulers the original parasitic class? You seriously expect our elected government (which is mostly lawyers) to correct themselves? I have never heard or seen such a situation self-correct, so i do not believe it can be done. But good luck with your hope.

    I have always wondered at those who dismiss Austrian economics. How's that Keynesianism and 13+ TRILLION debt working out for you? Enjoying the slide into economic self-immolation?

    Though I would agree with the poster that is supicious of any who attribute scientific method to the arcane realm of economic knowledge. The only way to be sure of economic theory is real world experience. The Keynesian crap we have been trying is now failing completely.

    This works as long as you ignore the fact that Europe is currently undergoing severe economic troubles caused by their massive social programs. As soon as the Germans realize that they are propping up this house of cards, and paying for the rest of Europes social welfare while losing their own, I suspect it wont end well. I mean, what happened the last couple of times that Germany got into an economic morass that the rest of Europe inflicted on them?

    The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn. Can't think of of a better citation than this. Or search for the NKVD. Their specialty was airbrushing history. Oh, and shooting political enemies of the state in the head.

    Authoritarian tyrants are much the same whether their guise is communism, national socialism, or democracy. The best way to make people forget about enemies of the state is to not talk about them.

    No, its not. It may or may not be good tactics, but its certainly not a logical fallacy.

    But it is still voting for evil. You are at this point simply voting for the party which will screw you the least. Its like asking for the most gentle rapist. So why bother? What is my motivation if I get screwed no matter how I vote?
