"Gundlach acknowledged that the more precise calculation probably won't mean much to the average person."

Ahh here we go.. not much to us, hrmm..
What will many different Earth Scientists/Chemists learn from this then? The article doesn't seem to mention anything.. Wow, we know the Earth's mass, lets move on to the next operation to waste money.. ;)

How really important is the value of 'G'?
If this is going to make teleportation devices and enhance lightspeed development, I'm all for it! I can't wait to teleport to China and back within seconds, wouldn't anyone love that?

""Gravity is the most important large-scale interaction in the universe, there's no doubt about it," Gundlach said. "It is largely responsible for the fate of the universe. Yet it is relatively little understood.""

What? I'm sure every student in every High School does *many* things concerning gravity, and different sorts of energy and how gravity affects them.. at least *I* did..

Gravity the most important part of this world? I thought it was evading black holes.. Oh wait, that does deal with gravity! :)

Maybe we wouldn't have to wait months for a NVidia driver if they went open.. Do they care about the customer, or their own neck? If they don't start considering Linux and the customer, they're going to cut their own neck.

Linux is extremely popular because it is totally free and of the large software base supporting it.

GNU is the group of programmers that make all the programs for Linux, and one of the requirements for making a program under the GNU license is that the program must be free and the source must be available to everyone.

"One of the main differences in the varients of Unix between Linux is that almost all Linux software is open source, which with Unix this is usually not true." Says the GNU group..

This kind of thinking is very smart in the OS arena, making the source available to programmers can help advance other programmers' skills to a higher point, and thus in the end you get higher quality software from everyone. Everyone helps everyone else, this is the way life should be..

Ipmasqadm is used to configure extra masquerading funcionality, usually provided by additional kernel modules.

  24. People should be educated about mental illness' on Manic Depressive Geeks · · Score: 2
Mental Illness is something that people should be educated about, and readily.

I, myself, am clinically depressive, and one of my friends is manic depressive, and my first girlfriend, and my first love, was schizo affective/bipolar.

Being around someone with a mental illness can really hurt, and confuse someone who doesn't understand the person's problem, and possibly make them do things they otherwise wouldn't do. When bipolar people are depressed they seem to always, and do a very good job at it, bring out the absolute worst in people. When they're on their high, its usually opposite or they are just totally annoying.

My girlfriend awhile ago as I said is schizo affective/bipolar and it took me months and months to even "grasp" her mind. Nobody can truely understand someone with a mental illness, it's just impossible unless you feel the same. Eventually I was around her enough to be able to work with her problem and -fairly- well hold myself together (to this date, working with her and a couple other factors is why I am clinically depressive). Soon there after, I was opened to a whole new world of her.

Inside, after you get past the illness, the person can be totally different to someone who knows whats happening. My girlfriend totally changed perspective in my mind, she became the most .. beautiful thing in my life, and shortly thereafter I truely fell in love with her .. and she was my first love.

Awhile later, the relationship ended, and she is still working on getting better in a retreat.. A special school for people with those kind of problems. She is having -major- problems with knowing her self-wealth and actually beliving that she means anything to anyone .. She currently takes exolith, a sort of time release lithium, and a few other drugs to -try- to control her problem. I myself take 60mg of prozac and it works well in controlling the depression.

I found relief in my depression similar to the link posted in this article, doing programming and other computer research takes my mind off myself and more into learning other things.. Helping other people really works well for changing your views if you are really down also.

People with these sorts of mental problems usually have alot more problems in the job place then others. They are often judged too early, and turned down to a job they could be very successful at. Thought their mood may change, their goal usually stays the same.

I guess all I am saying is that were not very different than anyone else out there, and have a pretty normal life. If people were educated about this kind of people (because there are alot of us-more than you might think) then maybe the whole world would be a better place .. hehe :) Just my .02 .. -meff

  25. Talk City and ethics on Talk City Closing Doors To IRC · · Score: 2

Sure, they could fix the servers to fix these problems but they never will. Making a propeitary client will get them banner advertising, cash, and a "solid" userbase. Sure, this may be an easier way to support, but this is not where Talk City is looking as for doing this .. Once again, we pop back in to the root of all evil .. $$$

Though Talk City knows they are going to lose users from doing this, they also know that the majority of users that they are going to use are the lusers that use stupid scripts and flood stuff on IRC networks. Yes there *are* server side ways to effectively filter this out, but why would they do that? Take advantage of the opportunity, and make a good cover up as to why they must make a dedicated client to connect to their servers.

Pure and simple .. Money folks.
