Thanks for clearing that up. I get what your saying. I don't think hierachical is bad though. For most uses you probably would always think in the same order. There typicaly is one order that is more logical than the others. But having they way you mention would be nice to have.
What you discribed if thats the way you want to have your files orginized is the way you (people) can do it in a hierachical file system. Thats how i always orginize things on my computer. Is there something more to this that you didn't say or wasn't clear.
Anyone else read this and get a flashback to an exam, say in college were you got the answer right but the prof. took off points because there was some slight flaws in your work or thinking. You were not wrong you just had a few things sketchy or didn't explain it well enough. One of those deals you just want to go insane on the prof on. Your right enough and nothing bad will happen with your result. Can just see a prof. pulling one of those on Albert.
Correct, the containers are basicly indestructable. I belive they can even take a direct misile hit. Also if it was breached the Waste has been glassified, thats is mixed with molten glass and hardened. so it is very hard to spill. the container itself is layers of steel, concrete, re-bar, kevlar and all sorts of stuff to make it pretty much impossable to destroy. The have done test running trains into them. No problems. I would be more than happy if the government would pay me just to let me park them on my land. Easy money.
Well not rich, actully me and my brothers tried to get a video game consol our whole lives and never were alowed. I was playing on that 800 into the mid 90's.
Funny you mention the two slots. I never figured out what the one was for. All games when into the one side. Never used the other. Don't know how much memory it had. Though i do now it had expandable memory and it's full. I still have it and controllers, paddels, two disk floppy drive. and a bunch of other stuff sitting at my parents. Keep thinking of busting it out and playing with it. As simple as the games were i think i only ever beat a few. The big downside to the 800 was it was so hard to find games for it. So we had few. Not sure when the thing came out. It may be older than me. I was born in 80, so i think i missed the time to know more about it and the state of the competition at the time. I've always thought it was the more lame duck of the atari's since it was more of a computer than game console. Part of me wants to buy a 2600 to make up for what i missed.
I think I remember a slashdot a while back on some eastern block country using a 800 in a hospital. Really can't think of what one could be used for.
I found the atari 800 version to be just like an arcade. Actully it seams the 80 versions of many of these games were far better. E.T> for 800 had no pits. It actully was pretty good once you figured out what you had to do. Probably one of the better looking games made for the 800.
But hey, i think i was the only kid to have a 800 and not a 2600. To this day I get confused when people talk about atari's being black, cause mine wasn't.
Agree'd it was a good artical but not saying that it was never ment to be air tight was missleading.
The other flaw of the article was it writes as if the core exploded which is incorrect. The explosion was a steam explosion when all the coolent boiled. This is what blew it apart. By some reports the rods from the core went for miles all around. It wasn't a nuclear blast. Thats why it was so bad from a radiation point. There was never a proper reaction to deal with the radiation. Now granted the explosion was caused by people doing something they shouldn't have causing the melt down. They had turned off all safty messures and were running an un-authorized experiment. It got away on them and there was no stopping it. This meltdown wasn't an accident. It was an orginized effort at being stupid. This is why chernobyl is a poor reason to call Nuclear power unsafe. It wasn't an accident, it wasn't a function of the reactor. Granted if they had a good containment dome everything probably would have been ok. Also if they hadn't done something they should have never been doing.
3 mile island had and accident, though once again it was do to something stupid, a pump turned off and no one knew. A good part of the core melted. But since there was a proper dome no radiation was released. And because of what was learned there plants are even safer now.
Nuke power is very safe, and clean. I much prefer one of them then a coal plant around. Also considering how shady reactors in countries like russia are it's very impressive there has only been one bad incident and it wasn't do to a design flaw.
You should read "Brotherhood of the Bomb" and read how Ernest Lawrence worked with his cyclotrons at Berkly (SP?). They basicly set up shop in a wooden shack. They had no sheilding or anything for a long time. Pretty much anything sounds safer and more advanced than his early creations.
I'm not wasting thought process if that how my mind works. Thinking in more dimensions is not hard, it's easy. converting to flat is hard. I do not claim special thinking ability. the is nothing special at all about it.
"Just because you can't think in 4D doesn't mean others can't.
Picture something that's 4D. Now stop it from moving."
Just because time is involved doesn't imply movement. In the super grand scheme of things relating something relitive to the universe or any point other than say earth this wouldn't be the case but in the most simple case, say a box on a desk. Time can pass and it not move.
There could be infinite demensions dependent on how you look at things. far as the definition of demensions go there are infinit ones. I could come up with more and more variables. If your talking string theroy then there is a fix number though the arn't sure which one. There is two theroys far as I know. I don't know if the numbers by the poster below are the ones I have heard of.
When people think demensiones the first ones that come to mind are x,y,z,t there is no real reason to think the first three-four are this aside from convention. There is no reason to think those demensions are any more meaningful than it is to have say stress, strain, rate of heat transfer...etc or any other of the bizillion demensions one could come up with.
If your thinking the 4th D would be yet another shape defining demension, well there is no reason to think that. It could be but that's very unlikely. The time and any other demension could have an effect on defining the shape of an object. I think the most common idea about when people think inpossable 4D is that in 4D you would see 4 sides of an object like a cube at the same time. There really isn't much reason to think such a thing would exist because it would do nothing in defining it. Saying that only fails because it's not a 4D object in a 4D universe doesn't count ether. The point of demensions is they are definable. There are none that we can't measure in some way. That wouldn't be a dimension. If we couldn't define it and measure it.
Just because you can't think in 4D doesn't mean others can't. The world we live in is way more than 4D. The 4th demension is time. Not very hard to work with that. Granted I relize many people, maybe most, only think in 2D, how I don't know. I think in 3D all the time and add more D's as needed. 2D is hard to think in because there is no such thing as 2D. Things we think as being 2D arn't, just close to it. I can't even write on paper without my mind visulizing the thickness of the letters.
"It allows us to call for help when deserted out in the middle of HickVille, USA"
Sorry this is wrong. Though in places like the midwest were only a few towers is needed this idea works. In most rural places it doesn't. I live in Pennsylvania, one of the most populated states in the country but in one of the hick parts. Cell phones don't work. And simple arn't very likely to work any time soon, as in the decade. Mountainous regions kill implementation of cell phones unless there is a lot of people to make it worth while. So if something happens to you there your still screwed.
Also snake is a good game, but once you beat it it's not so fun. that is to make a snake that fills every pixel of the screen. Takes a long time to do but not hard. Best way to run a game is to beat it. Maybe when i get a new phone it will be fun again
I got both, In state college i was loosing my connection as well last night. And my connection is slow as hell a good chunk of the time. and their tech people are clueless and th billing department has inverted calenders.
Yeah, I belive I had the same problem for a weekend once then it just went away, go figure. Yes their people are extreme idiots. They don't even know they have an office in my town when I call them. They don't know what their own messages say is wrong when your waiting on the line for hours. I called them once and the machine said they were having problems like mine. When i got to a person I told him I thought the machine had answered my question, he said there were no such problems. Odd. When they sent a guy I hear his CB/radio thing have a person say that they had a outage in my town that weekend, i mention to him that must have been the problem and he responded with that there had been none when his own office said there had been 3 seconds before. Ether wacky coverup or very dumb people. Either way adelphia still has issue. Things like getting my bill before the due date would be nice to. And don't even begin to get started on trying to get digital cable from them upgrade.
I had one of those as well. It did a good job. Really need to find the pictures. I still have the rocked all ready to go. It's been launched a few times. I forget the details about it since this was ages ago. I seam to remember the film being some wacky formate, so that could be a problem.
Ah yes model rockets, experaince being nasa. they explode, go off course, don't work, catch a breeze and go a mile off course. get the wings on wrong the spiral at you. shoot them with the wind at 45degrees and never see them again. Also the branch hobby from this rocket powered anything else. Rocket boats were fun. Those engine work under water to. Seeing your boat go under water and a glow then pop up out of the water like a missile from a sub is fun to.
You have to ask the question though... Were the makers of Star Wars II even aware of this room? I wasn't, I also don't remember it from the film. But I can say that if I was going to have some grand library it would have looked like this one. It's what a lot of libraries look like and just the typical image of a grand library. The same goes for many other things. Just because you see a similarity in something doesn't mean there is, or that it copied it from something else. There are only so many original ideas in the world, everything else is a modification of an original idea. We go through life and bit things up from everywhere. If your the writer of something there is no way you could know if something you think of was truely something new to you or draw some some moment in your life. No one can remeber how every idea in their mind got there. The makers of Star wars very well could have just invisioned a library and this is what they got. Then someone around the world makes a connection and thinks they are making a rip off. There are so many things in the world. No one is aware of everything. Two people thinking of the same thing at the same time in the world happens all the time. Look at patent disputs. If enough people watched this film and tried to find similarities they would be able to say the makers ripped off the whole world. This goes for music , writtings, machines everything. There are only so many ways people are going to do things. and the good way have all probly been done. People make what people like so you get similarities, people arn't trying to rip people off or even aware of it. It just happens.
Now if the producers said "yeah we got the idea from the long room" then there probably should be credit givin.
people need to stop thinking everyone is just ripping other people off. It happens, you can't expect everyone to be aware of everything out there. your going to get copies.
Thank you for writing what I was going to, you are correct and with the proper equations.
Now for the exceptions to this. The oceans are salt water (more dense) the ice caps are fresh water, so they are floating a bit higher in the water then they would be in fresh water, so when the melt it would raise the sea level. When I solved this once it came out to an extremely small number so it doesn't really matter. Where the sea level change comes from is from ice in antartica and greenland melting. There you have ice miles thick that's on land. Basicly a lot more ice than the floating Ice, this will raise the oceans and is where the global warming floads come from.
And to the person wondering if all the ice is held up by the water in the artic, yes it is, there is no land there, it touching land like N. America and Russia will not hold it up as water lowers below, just look at a pond or river in the winter as an example, near the edge as the water drops the ice drops, usualy causing a inclind ice sheet that makes getting on and off the river or pond really hard. Also with it moving up and down with tides, it does, the artic is a very broken up pile of ice, ice, it's very dangerous do to pressure ridges and such. If you ever want to see such a break up watch a river in spring when the ice breaks, often you get jams and pressure ridges, when it all blows rivers can rise at feet per second! very dangerous. I had the Susquahanna (live near it, can't spell it) River do this just as I went to get on it, luckily I got away.
As a read it I felt like it was answering my problems. Through college I gradualy found my self in front of computers for greater amounts of time and now feel like as they describe, I can't sleep for crap any more. I ether sleep for 15hrs a day or don't sleep at all. Hell it's 5am and I'm up. I was tired a bit ago, but no more, I have to study for a test but don't feel like it, but I'm up because I'm wanting to study.
Drag is exponential. It doesn't become a big componet till about 45mph.
Your right the forces you feel on your bike are very much there. Drafting is a great example. You on your bike are very much effected at lower speeds. The force of drag is large compaired to the amount of power you have avalible. A biker isn't very powerful compaired to a car or train. So even small amounts of drag created at low speeds are very much felt. As you scale things up the the drag on a machine tends to grow no where near that of the power of the device so it's of little concern. But around 45 tends to be the magic number for most things, after that if does add up. This is why cars that hit highspeeds have to be sleek. But that same fast car might be beat by something else less sleek off the line since drag wasn't part of the picture at low speeds.
Thanks for clearing that up. I get what your saying. I don't think hierachical is bad though. For most uses you probably would always think in the same order. There typicaly is one order that is more logical than the others. But having they way you mention would be nice to have.

You need to be punched in the face many times.

It's because in the future we start to toss Ice from Haley's Comet into the Ocean. This increases the amount of water into the system.
So the solution is simple, build clean robot's
