re:1600x1200 on a 17" depends. On the quality of the monitor mainly, your eyes secondly. I'm running at 2048x1536 on a 20" monitor. Of course, the monitor doesn't suck (nice studio sony trinitron with 50 different settings that take a week to calibrate.)
One last time you innumerate morons: resolution improved quality and does not affect size. Try printing the same page at 300, 600, and 1200dpi. Does it come out 4 times smaller on the 1200? Does it look better?
Sigh. I used to work laserjet support - at least once a week someone would call complaining that their new laserjet 4100 (1200dpi printer) / whatever had crappier quality than their laserjet 4. Apparantly many of the "older generation" prefer the 300 dpi resolution of the older printers (probably because their eyes are going out).
I couldn't make this up if I wanted to.
/granted, this was mainly for text printouts, but. . .
I'd tend to disagee about WW2. Although a lot of civilians died, the percentage would most likely be higher in other conflicts. A hundred or so years ago it was pretty much normal for the victors to kill not just the combatants, but just plain everybody on the losing side. The brits and spanish behaved rather badly, as did the french and most other european countries a couple hundred years ago. This all pales in comparison to the era of kahn or the romans, babylonians, etc.
God fucking dammit. Look. If you are a school or landlord, you are not given the right to break the law. If the FCC says something is illegal, than it is.
How the fuck is this difficult to comprehend?/yes, I know schools abuse their students who live in dorms, and get away with it because the students, almost by definition, have no money to sue./not full of angst.
I'm not sure what is the big deal about taking down the penguin.
It wasn't an act to destroy the creativity of students or supress their free speech rights, it was the janitors taking down something that was put up in an act of intellectual masturbation by a bunch of college students who apparantly had too much time on their hands.
If someone donated $20 million to your school, you'd probably go a bit out of your way to make sure they feel welcome. That includes taking down ads for / mascots of their competitors.
yeah, does it by default every 15 days or so. I've been using it for a couple years (3?) and don't recall ever having to do it automatically. The freeware files are damn near impossible to find on their site though - google for "avg freeware". Their latest version is a bit bloated too, the older ones tend to be better.
Come now, lets not post bullshit. Canadian hangun laws aren't very strict, access to them isn't really "limited" and the testing / information booklet for the PAL of restricted (i.e. handguns) and non-restricted firearms (i.e. shotguns, rifles that don't look mean) is virtually identical. You can challenge the tests for $25 each. The books aren't exactly mensa master material either, you would have to be pretty damn stupid to fail your PAL test. There are other laws about transportation, etc, but lets not pretend that is the reason for the low number of gun deaths.
fyi gunbroker.com tends to have really shitty prices compared to your local gun stores. You'll also find a lot of dealers trying to unload the stuff they haven't been able to sell in stores to others. I'd reccomend actually going to a gun store and seeing how the guns feel in your hand.
Why German Jews (and Russian "intelligentzia" later in 30s) did not put up ANY armed resistance at all, There is this kind of small thing called the Warsaw uprising, I know it is a couple years later, but I don't think it would be fair to say "ANY".
Hand guns are notoriously inaccurate at much beyond a dozen feet or so. Stop believing the movies. Before I shot several thousand rounds of ammo through my beatup S&W 39-2 9mm, I would of have completely agreed with you. I don't / wouldn't anymore. 25-30 feet maybe. (of course, this assumes you actually practice, unlike, it seems, some police officers)
That said, there are "shotgun" loads for various calibers. I'm sure they play hell with your barrel, but they do make it pretty darn hard to miss and don't leave any very big marks on walls, etc.
Not sure about the safety aspect. When I had a younger kid in the house, the 39-2 had a gun lock running through it and was also locked into an ammo case. A slide shotgun would be several orders of magnitude better for home defense though.
My experience albeit somewhat poorly written, I wrote it shortly after someone robbed me of a toner cartridge for a Laserjet 4 while I was armed with a 9mm handgun. (the retard walked away if you don't want to read the whole thing, I didn't even draw)
I think it is rather hard to judge - and too easy to generalize - if you haven't been involved. Most of the people involved in these situations don't have much time to think about the possible consequences, and I think you will find most stories in the media somewhat lacking in detail.
I digress. . . the guy wasn't going to attack me over the toner cartridge, but I didn't know he wasn't untll he started running.
Hindsight, of course, is 20/20.
There are many cases where it would be pretty damn stupid to shoot someone over property - such as the stupid toner cartridge - but there are other situations where the distinction is not so clear.
Then again, there are situations where mensa masters try to rob gun (or regular stores, it is just so much more amusing when they try to rob gun stores and somehow can act surprised when they get gunned down) stores with no mask. Most people can put 2 and 2 together and "no mask" tends to mean "I'm not going to leave witnesses."
I think that you would agree that someone wearing a mask walking around your house in the middle of the night is usually NotAGoodThing{tm}. I'm not quite sure how I would react, but my reaction would be different than if it was any place besides my home.
On a side note, the racking of a shotgun slide tends to send all but the most dedicated burglar running and / or pissing his pants. Sometimes just the threat is enough.
I think the phrase "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" could be applied here. Sure, they have nukes (maybe, probably), sure they could use them, but the result would NotBeGood(TM) for NK. The fact is that the Americans have more than enough nukes to ensure an "adequate" response. Also, the other big kids in the nuclear sandbox would be a wee bit upset.
I'm in Oregon, so maybe that has something to do with it, but "obscenely fucking slow" was my experience with walmart's "service". They do give a free month though. . . Cancelling was easy 6 or so months ago. They ended up losing a DVD along the way and didn't give me any hassle.
On the other hand, I think netflix is starting to be shitheads on my account. There should be no reason that there is a 4 day turnaround between receiving dvds and sending new ones. Their support sucks too.
Those cameras have about the same resolution and picture quality as an analog 8mm. I presume Boston will think of deploying something a bit better in the quality department.
3.8% isn't much of a change. Not quite the example of a really negative response, given that the stock price is back up to 83.74 (Up 1.78 (2.17%) end of business on the 8th.
What could possibly go wrong?/ignoring the fact that it is easier to convince greenpeace to clearcut an old growth forest than it is to get regulatory approval.

In case you're wondering, 21 tons of gold is worth roughly $300,745,718 USD today.

Have we bought any H&R Block products via their website?

Removing the ignition fuses from the fusebox works a bit better than micro-chipped keys - cheaper too ;)

More correctly, the operator of the vehicle broke a law. Funny how the citation is in the owners name though.

This is just another case of law enforcement making up (or wanting to) for gross incompetency by using technology.

They have runway light patterns for that, including one that is pretty much "get the fuck off the runway NOW"
Sometimes redundancy is a good thing...
