An 8 megapixel ccd behind a cheap lens is going to look worse than a 1 megapixel ccd behind a high quality lens. Look at the pictures of mars, they were taken using a 1mp camera.

Of course, the additional detail is nice. But to be really usable to blow images up (which is probably the only reason for going higher than 4-5mp), the following problems have to be solved.

    1. Noise has to be reduced. Especially in dark pics. Less of a problem now, but still an issue. Of course, if you're taking a 8mp camera and printing out an 8x10, you probably won't be complaining. Zoom in to 300-400% and you will be easily able to see it (and all the stuck sensors, but that is another story).

    2. The lens is good enough to resolve that detail.
No, your made in china $5 lens will not be good enough. There is a reason professional film cameras have "big ass lenses".

~550,000 people in the county, 700 jobs lost in 2 weeks, and those are just the layoffs I know offhand. Add to that a bunch of people ending temp work at the end of tax season, and I don't think that it would be unreasonable to claim that 1 in every 200 or so people will be freshly unemployed and looking for work come May, especially given that 550,000 is the total number of people, including children and retired folks, etc, not just the employable workers.
I'm going to think that is fairly significant.

Of course, your original point was about lazy people not wanting to work, so here's my point. It doesn't matter if you're lazy or not, if there aren't any jobs available, you're not going to get one. Bush did increase the length of unemployment benefits, so either there is a problem, or he is just giving money to the lazy people.

    Besides, -700 + 1 still equals -699.

usb 2.0, mounts as a drive, so no f***ing software to install to connect (except on win98, mac os 8.6 etc), no drm garbage, spdif in / out, built in mic. You can even read text files with it.
Battery life is decent, you can hack it open and replace the batteries (lion cells) in a year or two when they die (or add a bigger hdd, but I digress)

I'd rather have an iPod for the wheel but for a $200 difference, I can tolerate living without one. Check out some of the other stuff they make, you won't be dissapointed.

Creative Labs has 25% off $100 orders with coupon code AFL030425 [Exp 3/22] which makes a 40gb zen $225, but that has some other downsides, looks better than the archos, but has a bunch of other "features" that the archos doesn't have.
