  2. Maemo on HP Confirms Slate To Run WebOS · · Score: 1

Both Android and WebOS are not 'Linux' in its full meaning. They have many proprietary components, access to the kernel is locked, and the applications must be written in some really exotic languages (Java dialect, that no one supports and ... HTML?!) because device manufacturers don't want anyone messing up with their hardware. This means: no porting of existing software and no multi-platform apps.

    I'd prefer Maemo.

I concur. EAX at that time wasn't even a 3D sound technology, it was cheap annoying echo and nothing more. I remember trying A3D in jDoom engine - it was amazing! Playing Heretic with only two speakers, I could tell that monster was behind, above and left of me. Even later surround systems could not achieve that. Yes, with surround you can probably tell if something happened behind you or left of you, but you can never distinguish if something happened above you.

I think this is intended to prevent incidents alike what happened to Wolverine movie. Probably it was designed to work like this:

    1. Official digital distributors sell movie copies (let's assume "Wolverine 2") with signatures. Streams of signed data flow to consumers.
    2. Signatures are provided to ISPs.
    3. ISP watches the traffic, and some software automatically searches for a movie data stream tagged "Wolverine 2" and compares signatures.
    4. A leaked copy of "Wolverine 2" appears in the net.
    5. ISP detects a non-legit copy, red light, le "three strikes and you're out."

Don't ask me questions about this scheme, I know it's flawed. But I think the idea is to separate 'good' and approved digital data streams from 'bad' ones. In fact, a good legal framework was already established for this kind of shit. ISPs are obligated to watch the traffic and are held responsible for copyright infringement. Users now could be cut off from Internet for the same reason. The DMCA can be used to silence the source. And now the mysterious and dreadful ACTA...

Just think about hardware support and some programs where it isn't too bad if they are proprietary ('mainstream' games, for example).

Whenever I want to play mainstream proprietary games, I use Windows. Currently, there is no place in Linux install for proprietary software. Installing a binary package with the root access? Are you kidding me?! Probably in the future, this software would be automatically installed under VM, but the problem is games would still need direct hardware access.

Don't you want new hardware ... to work on linux, too?

New hardware already works on linux. Next question, please.

Widespread use of an OS could be the most important factor when a company decides on which platforms they want to release a software for.

If it's still proprietary, than what's the point in using linux (see above)? No, really? If you just want to think different (r), there is another OS for that. And this kind of companies you're talking about would never agree with free and open software ideas.

Sexual intercourse should be a human right.

From what I know, from a humanist philosophy point of view, any human being needs to have the right to full control of their body. So if someone wants to do something insane with their body, they are entitled to it (poenis goes WHERE?). Encouraging mutilation or sex however, would not be humanist (Somebody, think of the children! And hey, we're already past 6 billions of population! Earth is not a clown's car!). So if you decide you want to have sex, fine (Although I still despise you, crazy pervert!). If you want to preach people should want to have sex, need help to have sex, should be sold equipment, manuals, videos, books, have sex parties, night club lounges, sexual workshops, masturbation encouragement boot camps (LOL, WTF?), pro porn marketing campaigns, sexual education in school, porn industry awards, also tight jeans and 90% of US humour etc, all of which is speech, well, that would be psychological violence. Thats ideals, philosophy, morality, etc however. The field of law is another matter, and how to word the law so it's not abused either way is not so easy.
