Which comes back to DVD being an established format with clear reasons to upgrade to. So in the case of PS2 it was a value add, it was a console that gave you DVD playback for a decent price. Bluray isn't established, and you are paying a premium for a feature that isn't adding value.
Consumers mostly dont know, or even give a flying shit about those things. The issues are cost and availability, clearly this xmas is about early adopters - next xmas will be telling. Me i'm buying a wii, but my record isn't great have a dreamcast and a saturn.
You picked up on the area of the Mac product line where a lot of enthusiasts find a big hole, and i'd like to see them put something in there to fill the gap. The iMac is really a desktop for general use, home users that just want to web surf and office folk that just do Word or basic design stuff. The Mac Pro is a heavy duty workstation built for really intensive AV work and absolute overkill for a hobbyist.
Maybe they'll pad out the product line with a Core 2 Duo, non integrated box. I'd buy one in a flash.
Well there is the point to be made that if non of the major contributors to the problem are willing or able to reign back - then those that care are in fact better off in spending money on coping with the problem rather than preventing it. It doesn't matter how efficient and eco friendly a hypothetical western european country is, if the big polluters continue to pollute then any efficiencies they themselves make will have marginal at best impact on the problem.
Lik Sang only needed to defend in one territory then escalate it to the high court. Hell, i'm sure most of their business in the EU would have been from DE/UK/FR anyway.
contrary to popular belief, you can actually set up a DNS record in a UK domain that points at a server in the US. Spamhaus is a UK organisation, all it needs to do is migrate it's users from spamhaus.org to spamhaus.org.uk and setup global load balancing on that domain instead.
hell they could even get IP addresses from RIPE and ask the upstream ISP to route to that block and then ICANN cannot touch them.
Just have it so Terrans and Protoss are the playable factions, and leave the Zerg as a common enemy - much the same as Horde/Alliance and the Silithid.
Everyone in the game community knew the name already as Revolution, and a few people that aren't hardcore saw that name in the teaser press. The Nintendo Wee name is stupid, confuses non hardcore gamers and is the laughing stock of anyone that truly follows games.
I predict 95% of all casual gamer moms buying a console for little Jimmy will be too embaressed to go into a store and ask for a wii, and will buy a playstation instead.
I only just settled on DVD and they are replacing them? My TV has a great picture and great sound,i have maybe a 100 dvd's now. TV is still ha;f broadcast in analogue 4/3. The sattelite broadcasters are starting to advertise HD but they have no programs available in that format anyway. I might buy into HD or whatever the next flavor of the month is in 10 years when my tv breaks.
I'm tech savvy, but its a marginal incremental upgrade for me. It's not even on any of the radars of my non tech friends.
It's very good, and for general day to day stuff often works better. However:
Entourage isn't a drop in Outlook replacement and is limited when connecting to Exchange. It also has a habit of blowing up and corrupting your email when you hit around 4gig.
There is no Access, Visio etc.
The whole suite is prone to corrupted fonts / settings - most normal users don't know to delete ~/Library/Microsoft* when this happens.
The files tend to be cross compatible, but the sorry state of Mac fonts scuppers this a lot.
Really, you are either completely clueless about OSX or trolling.
The Adobe software is available on OSX, and though they are being completely useless about porting it to i386 OSX it's not a reason to run Windows. Hardcore photoshop people tend to favor the Mac anyway.
Running Windows to run AVG anti virus software? *shudder* Perhaps not run Windows and not bother with it?
OpenOffice? There are perfectly good versions of MS Office on both OSX and Windows, again no reason to use Windows. Haven't checked recently, maybe OO has been ported to OSX anyway - it's still a dog tho.
OpenCD for browsers? Whats wrong with Opera/Firefox/Safari on OSX?
Picasa? I'd stick with iPhoto tbh.
Moodysoft Screen Capture
# Command + Shift + 3 = grab screen to pdf file on desktop
# Command + Control + Shift + 3 = grab entire screen and place on clipboard.
# Command + Shift + 4 = grab region of screen to pdf file on desktop
# Command + Control + Shift + 4 = grab a region and place it on the clipboard I this one pretty useful, it allows you (for example) to grab a screen area and paste it into an email message...?
Cygwin? Are you on crack with this? OSX has a terminal with Bash, and Xwindows is available as an optional install right on the install CD.
I have worked with a LOT of designers, artists, video professionals, and even web developers who have REFUSED to ever work on anything but a PC, and have never used OSX for more than a few minutes. It always amazes me, but I have found myself in situations more times that I can count, where as the one guy in the studio who has ever touched a Mac, I have to explain all sorts of simple things, because they don't know the first thing about OSX.
Sadly I mislaid the tv adaptor dongle somewhere moving houses, otherwise it'd be under my tv ousting the ps/2 - at least some of the time. Thats the problem with consoles tho, something better comes along and the old one gets relegated - not enough SCARTS to go around.
Soul Calibur on the DC was/is by far the best 3d beat em up, the PS2 sequels dont hold a candle to it, DOA is gimmicky and Tekken floundered. The only thing close was VF, but that was a different game and SC played better.
Metropolis Street Racer, maybe i'll get an xbox sometime and give Gotham a try, but the grandparent game rocked.
Shenmue - have some regrets over this one, got it at the end of the DC's life and managed to get the first CD scratched and couldn't get a replacement.
Space Channel 5 was awesome - anyone know if the music is available mp3 anywhere? up down up down choo choo choo
Taxi was a laugh for 30 mins at a time, was great fun powersliding into the punters and scaring them.
Chu Chu Rocket. Best puzzle game ever and free too!
Powerstone, didn't really get into it. Lot of people swore by it tho.
Would love to get that and my Saturn hooked up again for some good old fashioned fun games. I remember all the stuff coming out on the PS at the time was derivative ported crap.
Umm, because they are moderates and don't believe violence?
The grandparent pointed out that the religious leaders and community leaders have come out in the strongest possible non violent terms to say that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.

The Sony brand is mud in europe, overpriced crap that breaks after 3 years.
I'd never consider buying a Sony tv, Panasonic have the Japanese quality electronics market sewn up.

jurismadiction my ass
Similar thing happened to my mother, years of lugging heavy patients around has its toll.
1. Listen to old skool Hip Hop / Electro
2. Bodypopping
3. ?????
4. ROBOTICS
£179 and December 8th in the UK

mod parent up...
Bollocks.

The Xserves are still G5.
"Can we get a corroborating source besides just 1UP, or an actual quote from Sony about this somehow?"

Parent was referring to the Nintendo Revolution.
They have obviously found a way to index it.
Umm, because they are moderates and don't believe violence?

All that Sync stuff is running on Tiger server, you need to run Open Directory and look into managed preferences to get at it.
