Maybe when Freecache.org was announced on Slashdot it started pulling to many resources from around the globe, including Mirror.ac.uk. If it faultered under that load I could see anyone wanting to pull funding. Of course I'm just speculating that Freecavhe is using Mirror.ac.uk are a resource. Anyone know for sure?
Someone mentioned what would you do if the network go down. Heres a way around: Cache the @(^% thing on the hard drive. That way if the network goes down you've got the modules on your hard drive.
Besides, if the network goes down they won't be able to access the network printer or the network drive anyways to print their PowerPoint presentation.
Not instilling a lot of faith here. Plus if I'm not mistaken XChat is not as user friendly as Gaim. If some one else has something I could use like GAIM that doesn't use Java and runs on WIN32 I'm all for it.
Someone mentioned that Via's processors run slower then thier full powered conterparts. I can't wait until someone does a side-by=side of AMD/Via/Intel of the lower power chips.
I signed up for a SpyMac account when I read the post on the GMail story. Well here's my take on the service: SLOW and GLITCHY.
I had to sign up 3 times before it would take my information.
I've tried uploading my avatar for forums 7 times in 3 days and it still has yet to work. The same thing for selecting one of there a predefined picture.
The e-mail page itself takes up 5 minutes to load.
I sent a message from one of my accounts(www.2d.com) and it took 12 hours before it showed up in my inbox.
This service seems more like a beta products then a production ready system. A couple of suggestions: -Cut back on the mac-esc graphics. They're killing your server. - Maybe turn your storage down to 100 megs until you can scale to meet the demands of what you have. - Give POP3/SMTP access to your system. See above 2 points.
Imagine if you could communicate via a wireless connection. This could litterly let you do that.
If these chips will let people walk again why not communicate with others with a similar chip via a low power network? Instant telepathy, just add water.

This is cool news and all, but does anybody here know if this frequency range will also be made public (or has already been public for that matter) anywhere outside the US?
Not much use making this a universal standard if it can only be exploited in one county.
Screw universal. If I can get a good standard that will allow me to cover my neighborhood I would be happy.
Why don't content providers do what Disney Channel did?
Back in 80's and Disney would giveaway a free week's worth of programming every couple of months. Due to demand and marketing created from those give away periods Disney Channel became a basic channel in most markets.
#5 isn't ruled out. God said he wouldn't destroy the Earth with water again(Gen. 9:11). I thought it was fire, not water jumping out of those devices.
The Score I can do that. Fires are appearing randomly, what are the possible causes: 1. fire bugs 2. higher than normal voltage 3. emp devices being tested nearby 4. act of God 1 (natural causes) 5. act of God 2 (God's pissed - it is Easter, afterall) 6. aliens
we can rule out #1 due to witnesses. Ditto for #2 as fires have been happening in unplugged equipment.
We can also rule out #3 as the slashdot crowd says that can't be it.
There is nothing in nature that we know of that would cause #4. God promised after Noah's flood he wouldn't do this sort of thing again so we can rule out #5.
Ya know this article is right. We shouldn't program for the masses, just individuals. We should be able to put up colored modules and let people 'Draw' thier own personal applications.
I just wonder what took IBM so long to go for this? Was it matter of timing or did they have to wait for other judgements to clear first?
How about this Simpleputer?

Ya know I saw a Leapster at a local big box store. It can do color and decent sound via Flash 5 and uses normal batteries. Plus the Leapster costs less then half of the price of the Simputer.
When the Simputer was first announced it was a great idea, cheap portable computing. Now I can get alomst the same thing as a toy.

I wonder how long before Google Labs starts doing this?

Ummm... well... your chat client's site is down.

Chobits? Key-The Metal Idol? Tsunami Channel? Battle Angel? Robot Carnival?
I actually setup a company server IM using GAIM and IRC. It worked really well.
I wonder how many of these nar-do-wells are using IRC servers on port 80?
Um SlashNet
I'm very impressed with the press release but I would like to see a screen shoot or two. Once I see those pics I will jump on the band wagon.
BTW: Has any compared the Cross Over Plugin to the current version Wine?

You mean Chinese countries have stopped dumping cheap RAM into the national market? Or is it the booming economy causing inflation?

I was wondering how much power can I put out? .1 watts? 10 watts? 100 watts?

So Disney over came an al carte system off programming by giving the people what they.
