They are letting him slide on all his current infringement. They are not saying you must pay for a one year liscense starting when you op-ened, that right there is being lenient. If someone is proffiting by bootlegging your stuff you can sue for damages weather or not they stop.

Where I work we printed a union bug on some work, (that was non union). They caugt us, we stopped and owed them money, obviously.

Now if the shop has not prophitted -yuck I spell retarded- yet, and they stop using valve products it is very likley they can get away with minimum damges. We had to settle for tripple our prophit. We used the union bug twice, on one job it was a losing quarter so we prophitted zero. The other job we had to take the percentage of total sales that the job represented and multiply it by the quarters prophit and then multiply it by three.

For non blatent (the copies are purchased) possibly idiotic (claiming a mistake) and legelly shaky (everything I here about EULA's) I am sure a plan could be realized that would not put the shop out of business (if it is prohpitable). Valve wants money after all.

The local CD stores that used to sell bootlegs never went under, and would start back up a few months. I am sure it was a rather large company hassling them, and they obviously got away with it.

Actaully what killed them was file sharing and crap music being released. In a college town I can say absolutly that file sharing has devistated the CD industry. There are less CD stores and the ones remaining have less obscure music due to shrinking in floor space.

Not obsessing about the rockstar life style. Moving to a college town that is affordable and has at least a small local scene while still affordable to live in and close enough to some bigger cities to do gigs.

Record an album with a few thousand of equipment and get a bunch stamped for 800 dollors (1000 2-color screen printed mini-cds in plastic sleaves). Sell said 80 cent CDs with a few songs for the price of a drink. making 2 dollors proffit on each one. Plus getting 500 to 1000 (band total) for the night playing. More in the bigger cities.

It will not be rockstar living, or even the national average income. But you can not pay full taxes and live well above the poverty loine in a not too expensive to live area this way.

This is my third attempt at replying (once closed like and idiot, and once it back from a preview losing what I typed (damn you IE). Anyway this is a summery of what I previously posted, hope it makes sense.

The two most convincing stills are the two most fake. The Pinhead, and the Model.

The Model looks like art photography, and is very realistic as a photograph taken with special lighting in black and white, knowing it is CG I still see no flaws that betry it as such (at the resolution presented anyway, I'm sure if you could really zoom it you could tell).

Pinhead has a CG look to him, but quite possible because I know it is CG. I would imagine that it looks more real then a close up of Pinhead from a movie (seeing as noone really looks like that). The leather closthing is more fake looking then the face actually (to me) but probably could look the same in a photo with the propper lighting.

Next most realistic is probably Sandra. I can't really place what iswrong with here, maybe the lighting on the right side of teh skin? maybe the lips, maybe the eyes, but very realistic.

Of Giesler's faces in your first link about half are good. If they moved propperly they could probably act as stand-ins for real people. Where they would not get the extra few seconds or so of scrutiny they get as stills. Of course realistic movement is an even bigger problem. The TV presenter looks like she moves fake even though I don;t see her move (buttom shot). The others just look fake at a glance, for no real reason, they just do.

Actaully the more I look at Sandra the more I am not convinced I can really tell she is fake, it may just be that I knwo she is. The lips have a really bizarre shininess that is totally unreal, but photography can cause some strange effects. Especially with make up. Even so that is not realism, it is emulation of a doctored up photo (make up/airbrush). Perhaps the biggest problem with it is the sharp texture one the lips with no sharp texture (pores maybe) on the skinor not. the left side of the smil seams a little off in the lighting too. But again I am not sure if it is, or if I am creating itmy head since I know it is fake. I will set it as my wallpaper and see what my girlfriend thinks. She'll be bound to complain.

Sorry, I meant to summerize and save you from my rambling.

  5. Re:Most realistic looking render you've seen? on Realistic Human Graphics Look Creepy · · Score: 1

I just took it and scored perfect. Idid guess on about half of them though, so I was pretty lucky.

But it was a very poor test I think. The real shots looked fake for the most part. With surreal lighting that gave them a CGI look.
The blurring grass in the golf ball shot screams of fake, but there is a small dimple on the left of the ball that I was convinced made it real (it was). The lighting on the table was totally "fake" looking, but if it was supposed to look real they would not do the in CGI. The pile of nails I clicked the wrong button or would have gotten it wrong, but on closer inspection they are all the same. The glasses are good, but too glass to be plastic and too plastic to be glass.

The reflection of the wine gllass is too perfect to be real(or trying to be to through things off) but the thumbnail had me convinced it was.

the face was terribly fake, as was the grass up close.

The texture on the fork and spoon is terribly fake, maybe a brand new fru fru silver ware would look like that, but none I have eaten with.

The chess piece was a guess, but there is a fleck of dust on it that would paint it to be real.

Anyway comparing photography tricks/closups with CGI trying to be realisticisunfair anyway. Fake looking photos are not a fair comparison.

The grey-scale with a JPEG medium or even low compressions is going to be much smaller then the deafaults. A pure black and white with group four compression will be even better. At work we scan pages at 300 DPI that way and get 20 to 30 k files (I think, haven't done it for a while).

Also typically images for web viewing of even text are scanned at 72 dpi (all the scholarly journals at my university). This can make things hard to read but really shrinks the file (about 1/16th the size of 300 dpi).

Also if the scanner is set low res pure black and white it will scan a lot faster, but still be pretty slow.

The other option is to pay someone to do it. If you have all of the stuff ready at once and give the pros a week or so to do it when they aren't busy you can probably get as low as 50 cents a page.

I go to Nvidia's website to download the driver and it does not even work with that sized screen (I have to tab to the Get It button because it does not accept a mouse click) then download it for 20 minutes then install it. I do the same thing for device after device. And this assumes that my Network card is identified (which it always has been in 2000, but in 98 it would not).

In Linux I simply run the install program and everything works. Change a hardware device, hit enter twice at boot.

True I still need to dowload Nvidia's driver to get good performance in 3d, but the computer is still very usable before downloading it though.

Your ATI card may be a problem that makes installing Linux a huge PITA, but in general Linux is a much easier install then Windows.

    MAC is still easiest though.

File trading essentially allowed for a citt of 6,000,000,000 (ok, a lot less because there arn't that many computers, but still).

And the record label would nto be able to make bands big national hits raking in lots of money. But somebody with seed money, dedication, and time to put into it could probably survive focussing on a smaller scale, while letting bands make a little extra money. The artists would still need to work and do shows to get their CDs out there.

I agree though that noone is being forced to pirate music. Amazon will help you find CDs similar to ones you like while letting you sample tracks.

Do to the current structure of things the barrier for entry is too high for someone without a love of music and a lot a money to get into.

With the YaST I would re-run the install program without re-installing.

I stopped using it and switched to Debiasn when Debian 2. something came out. This was because SUSE upped their price for the 6 disk set to 90 doillors. 6.0 had no home/pro devision so it was much cheaper.

The labels will still be able to make a band big. It will just mean the little guys have totally even footing. But if you want to be a successful little guy now it is possible.

In my area it is relatively easy for a band to pull 1200 a week in shows (4 shows at 300). thats 300 a person there, then you sell your CDs at 10 dollars a piece for a 7 dollar profit. Thats 370 dollars a person a week, not big money but more then minimum wage. and it still allows for a part time job. Also some creative tax work, like only reporting 300, or 250 (which is minimum wage here) a week and keeping all those receipts for equipment and you are doing Al right. If you try at all you can get a couple shows bigger then that without going too far away too. Cost of living here is not that high either, 20,000 a year is not good money but it is survivable.

For somebody with talent playing anything that people will listen too (main stream punk, country, blues, bluegrass, heavy metal, rock, covers) there is definite potential to survive without the record company.

Much harder is finding like minded people who don't want to make big money with their music, but want to do it for a living.
