That much power focused into a beam will probably be enough to boil water. It'll be interesting to see if this has any side-effects during a rain shower!
Maybe we'll have the 'beams of steam' going across the various valleys in France!
I was going to post something on-topic for once, but unfortunately due to the downturn in the economy and fears of traveling I did not bother reading the article.
BUT considering how restricted it would be, who would want to? Xine and MPlayer can already play more codecs and formats than any other commercial player out there could even dream of.
At the very end of the series, did Spike survive? Is there going to be another series? It'll be a shame if that's all there is, because it's such a great show! And these days that's unusual.
Of course, the images look like shit (especially if the mpeg has a moving background).
As all viewers of Sky's digital service in the UK know. It's bad when the Quicktime videos you download of the net are better quality than Satellite TV!
maybe you're just so accustomed to MP3 that you don't like hearing music without the artifacts?
When I first started using Ogg, I kept thinking I was hearing artifacts. But everytime I went back to the original CD I couldn't tell the difference; what I thought was artifacts was actually part of the original uncompressed track.

I use my Slashdot ID for all my identity needs.
Hmm.. maybe I shouldn't have said that.
After all, there's nothing stopping a scientist being a terrorist. Censorship only services to hide things from the general public.

If you want to mod someone down, mod down the guy who asked the question, not the one who answered it.
To right!

Okie, slightly off-topic. But I'm curious :)

Does anyone know of a good source for these devices in the UK? They seem very expensive over here! (dabs.com @ £233 / $368 US).

It seems fitting, in a nerdish way, that he should die at 64. There is a certain symmetry somehow.
Real programmers never die, they are simply cast into (void*)
