Root kits, Serial Copy Management, Macrovision, Content Protection for Prerecorded Media, Advanced Access Content System, blah, blah, blah. The most effective DRM is for the lables to continue to put out crappy music. Eventually we'll all find something better to listen to.
Seems to be a natural cycle - intergrate, disintegrate. At an abstract level (the level that the board members or uber-investors look at) the four areas mentioned in the writeup look like they have a lot in common and would benefit from integration. So someone puts them all together by talking up this thing called synergy. Only then do they see that the specific methods that each of those entities use to implement their functions are very different and in some cases incompatible.
I mean, if you didn't know anything about how each of those areas worked, it would seem logical to think there's a natural flow from production to distribution to access (and news reporting is just a specialized version of that whole process). But, there's a reason Wal-Mart doesn't manufacture anything, and there's a reason that factories in China don't have retail stores here in the US.
"Investing full-on" == the return of pop ups. I've noticed more and more pop ups, not in independet windows, but as CSS overlays. Annoying as hell. Plus, it seems every page now has full-motion 30 fps quarter-page Flash movies. The return of the bad-old-days.
Everyone who says this croc wasn't that big, hold on a second. If you'd read the article you would have learned that it was not only four meters long, but it also had A FRICKIN' LASER BEAM on its head.
I've read through it but it doesn't seem too clear. If I take the guts of some Linux sub-system which is covered by this group's patents and dump it into my version of Plan9 or onto a ROM for my Super Happy Fun Robot toy and make a ga-jillion dollars off it, they won't sue me? Or they will sue me because it's not related to Linux?
If the former, then good, I guess. If the latter, then I'm not so sure it's such a good idea. If it's the latter then it would just be the Linux patent bully.
There are two character classes missing: The Evil Software Empire Overlord; and Rat-Bastard Movie/Recording Industry Puppet Master. Without these two villian types Slashdot will not be interested.
SCO has to ask for the 2.7 kernel now, because they won't be around when it finally does come out. If there is justice Darl will be in prison, where he can take time to think about what he has done. When 2.7 comes out I plan on sending him a printed out copy of the source so he'll have some reading material.

Do whatever needs to be done. But keep the pr0n flowing.

There is no reboot, just a breif BSOD, then you're back at teh login screen.
Researchers: "Give us the right to bypass protected spyware!"
U.S. Copyright Office: "No problem. That'll be $10,000,000; small, non-sequential bills, please."

Another excellent resource on this theme is Translucent Databases by Peter Wayner.
I don't know why they think they can land it again. Once you're voted off the asteroid, that's it - you go home.
Nothing beats the Filthy Critic!
"I'm sorry sir, the computer didn't hear you. Please speak clearly into the barrel."

I want to buy OSX x86 on an AMD64 x2 from Dell.
"Dude, Hell froze over!"
Who is James Gallt? Him? Why he's the associate director for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers.
Oh, JOHN Galt. John Galt. It's, "Who is John Galt?"

Now all we need is to get Wiki support for DB2 on Amiga.
The more they deny descending from monkeys, the more they start acting like them.

Regular exercise will also help normalize your blood sugar and avoid the highs and lows.
For a regular Slashdot reader that would qualify as original and non-obvious.
Yep, I'd say that if both her input and her output are busy, she's DP.*
*See, kids? This is why you should avoid too much pr0n, it just totally warps your mind.
This is the GPL version of Hot or Not?
Only old people use Windows in Korea.
vi is better
We should get the whole 'local control' thing down first.
