Each sector is run by an owner who has to follow the regulations of the gov't who comes in and checks up regularly. (Sort of like a food inspection I suppose.) Only reason I know any of this is because my dad has been working for them for about 20 years now.

Gateway wants to be able to tell the user "pop-in the restore cd and reboot, yes all your data is gone now, windows does that."

Oh how true that is...as an ashamed ex-gateway tech I can vouch for that statement. The number of times I would hear over my cubicle wall "Oh, do you have your system restoration kit?" for something other than a driver reinstall was way too high. I used to cringe when the guy behind me would do so. On top of that you have these call times you have to meet, so most of them don't even hang on the line during the installs, they call the end user back in an estimated amount of time. This would be fine except you have to take new incoming calls over this time and these can take even more time. If this is the kind of support people get with Windows, can you imagine these same systems trying to support Linux for the average home user? I now work for a division of the Fed Govt (US) and we have quite a few platforms that I have to call in replacement parts for from time to time, and I can say from experience that Dell and Compaq aren't any better. They have different problems yes, but they aren't better. (For example if WinNT isn't taking a ghost image, how could what is in the startup on the unit affect its taking of that load? I kid you not, Compaq actually asked me that when I was trying to get a replacement HDD) So my point (to get back on topic) is that yes, I would agree that support is only as good as documentation, because when you buy from one of the large corporations you get watered down techs who don't know what they're doing. (Otherwise they'd be earning more somewhere else.) But they're "good enough" for the home users because they don't know any better.

Sorry for rambling, mod as you see fit..lol

Sony sold 962,000 PlayStation 2 consoles between Nov. 11 and Dec. 8, according to CSFB estimates based on figures compiled by research firm NPDFunworld. Microsoft, which launched Xbox on Nov. 15, sold 934,000 consoles. The GameCube, introduced Nov. 18, sold 602,000.

These figures are based on a specific time frame so to say it is outselling simply because it's been out longer doesn't really hold water. Yes, they do have a few more games for the PS2 at this point, but XBox had quite a few at launch as well. The thing that amuses me is that both MS and Nintendo were claiming to be on top of the pile at their launch and here neither were. Ah, have to love true just desserts.

Lovely resolutions and compatability all around, the problems? Price and Support...the support teams weren't really sure of what to do with these since they weren't strictly PC units (they've ironed some of that out now I hear from colleagues who are still there). The Price was ungodly, $4,500 for one of those babies, which is nice for a 32" screen but I'll go get me a plasma screen for that price and get a Nvidia Geforce 3 or ATI with tv out and do about the same thing for less at better quality. I dunno, just seems like an unecessary hybrid to me.

I mean isn't most music about creating something meaningful to you in the hopes that it connects with someone else? If you tailor the music over a period of time to what your audience responds best to then isn't this just pablum. It's like what most record companies do when they create new mainstream music, pick the most watered down flavours to get the biggest appeal.

Yes, you do have that right, and that right is not to watch the movie, that's why there's a rating system. It allows you to judge more easily if you wish to see the content of the movie. That's it, end of story. If you don't like what's in the movie don't buy it!! The original intended audience is in the theatre where you don't have ff/rew/pause etc... As far as home purchase goes, hey if you disagree with what's in the movie, don't buy it!! I can't stress that enough, people always pretend that these directors/musicians/artists (insert creative force here) are forcing them to watch things, or forcing their children to do so. No one is forcing you to take any input into your ears, eyes, mouth, etc...it's your decision. Don't hold everyone else liable for your inability to make your own personal value judgements.

The problem is I could tell you that I saw a dragon on the way home, but just because it's eyewitness testimony doesn't make it any more true. I'm sorry but the original comment still stands, religion is based on non-testable topics. That's the meaning of belief (or faith if you will) right there. Religion doesn't need facts to back it up, that's why it is in fact Religion and believes in deities. Not arguing that it is wrong or right, it just is.
