  1. funny you mention it not mattering on Peeking at Netscape 8 · · Score: 2, Interesting

imagine if they had not become and open source product and instead mozilla came out later as netscape 6 and only netscape 6, would you use it on linux (given no alternative) and would you say it mattered? this might be an interesting test case for companies that are thinking of open sourcing.

"If (seemingly) every big console game can come out on all three consoles within a year (usually at the same time), then surely you can launch a computer game that runs on the big 3 OSes (Win, Lin, Mac) without 2+ year porting times. The difference between a Mac and a Linux box are MUCH MUCH SMALLER than between a Cube and a PS2. "

actually, no. when console games are made and not intended to be cross platform, the game is often written with a 3rd party API and it is easily ported to any of the 3 systems. You also need to keep in mind that linux users dont buy software and that is the big difference between them and Mac users.

remember that anti war activist Andrew Gilligan and the board of directors caused all of this by faking an anti-war news story and driving the scientist that was the center of the story to suicide. The people involved resigned, but the damage was done.

That was the british equivalent to memogate ie biased reporting by entrenched political activists.
