Uli has a motherboard spec that can do both PCI express and AGP without sacrificing performance. I too bought a nice AGP video card and lamented how quickly AGP is being discarded by manufacturers. The Uli allows me to upgrade to a new Athlon 64 X2 3800 and a ULi based motherboard (I just purchased the 3800 and the Asrock manufactured mobo today) and keep my existing card (Geforce 6800GT AGP) a little while longer. If I decide to purchase a new video card next year, I can buy PCI Express and not have to replace my mobo again.
The Asrock motherboard is dirt cheap too! (~100 CDN)

Why do people keep saying CD's die in 2 year/5 years/x years? Has anyone actually had a CD die on them? I have CD's in front of me at this very moment that are over 10 years old and still work great (yes I did in fact test them). Is there some conspiracy by the blank CD manufacturers to make you think all your CD's are going to die so you need to keep transferring the contents from one disk to another forever?
That's the whole point of rights. These basic rights are for ALL citizens, even ones that have child pornography on their PC's. There is no balance. You either give everyone the rights or no one has rights, it seems western societies are shockingly adopting the latter in some bizarre hope that it will make them safer. I am a parent and would like to cut the &^&^#@ off purveyors of child pornography, but I also don't want my child to grow up in a world where citizens are presumed guilty of something and communication lines are tapped, etc. Isn't that what the U.S.A. spent trillions of dollars fighting against during the cold war, only to turn around and do it to their own citizens?
That's why arguments on forums that attract (usually) technically savvy individuals are a waste of time. Jane and Joe Sixpack don't want to love their computer. They simply want to use their computer. It is a means to an end, the end being communication, accessing information, entertainment, work, etc. For people like you (and me), using computers are often the ends themselves, and that is why we are passionate about OS's, and is usually why people who are not think we are crazy when we go on and on about why linux is way better than windows, ms is evil, etc. I personally find Windows XP to be a fine OS. I have never been infected with spyware, I have never gotten a virus. Sure it takes some effort, but I enjoy the effort.
That is awesome! It's probably ancient but since I have never seen it before it's brand new to me. I think this should be pasted on every cubicle on the planet.
The scary thing is how much this sounds like many of the meetings I go to.
I fix alot of friends and relatives computers, and they all want to do (at least) the following: 1. Email 2. Surf the web 3. Store their digital camera photos 4. Listen/store/burn music or watch movies 5. Games
You don't need a great computer to do 1, 2 or 3, but 4 and 5 can require alot of horsepower, particularly if you are trying to do 4, while doing 1 2 and 3 at the same time.
This new processor sounds amazing, but I have long given up trying to keep on the bleeding edge. I am still using an overclocked Athlon XP-M 2500 and it's starting to show it's age:(
The problem is its not 'Take X and make it smaller. Observe.' The problem is:
1. Take X and make it smaller 2. Start using it in commercial products 3. Profit! (Oh..and observe only if required by law)
Nanotech is not the same as eating fruit. Fruits and humans have coexisted for many thousands of years. Nanotech is very exciting, but history has show us many times over that we do things without fully knowing it's effect (or possibly not caring) on organisms and the environment (DDT, thalidomide, x-ray machines, over the counter pain medication, the list goes on and on..)
Come on people...Microsoft did not invent the loss leader strategy. Do not hate them for using a tried and true method to attract new customers...there are alot of legitimate reasons to hate them!
Amen brother..we spent a fortune on our executive boardroom...and we don't even have video conferencing. We have motorized projector that drops out of the ceiling, motorized blinds, wireless touch panel to control everything. It is as simple as that equipment can be, but the execs manage to @#%#$^ it up on a weekly basis and I end up having to get them hooked up for each and every meeting. They also like to go into the AV closet of the room and randomly press buttons thinking that will somehow fix everything.
Why would they have to be 'technically savvy' to use voip? VOIP sells itself on being cheap and easy to use...I am sure they don't advertise that they don't offer 911. Most people would just assume that the service includes 911, and even if they told the consumer that it doesn't, I mean how many of us have actually dialed 911?

I thought that in the book the diamonds were created when jupiter became a star, not from one of the moons. It's been a while since I read it mind you. I believe in the footnotes of the book it referenced a scientific journal article which discussed this very prospect, so Mr. Clarke didn't actually have a vision of this, he just used it in his story. (Not saying he isn't a visionary, clearly he is, but just not in this instance)
Pocket excel would be much more useful if it had macro support (yes there are alternatives but I haven't been satisfied with them either), and supported more columns. These new handhelds are pretty powerful, they should be able to cram more features into pocket excel now.
They need a pocket ms access also. I have a Socket bar code scanner that I hook up to my Dell Axim for doing physical asset inventories/audits of our computer systems (each asset is barcoded)...and these mini versions of office are great.
RotJ was on TV the other day, and having seen Return of the Sith, I can say that there are several inconsistencies. I don't want to spoil things too much...but here is an example: Anakin skywalker has a vertical scar crossing over his right eye. When Luke takes Vaders mask off at the end of Jedi, no scar. This can sort of be explained but it still kind of sucks.
Luke and Leia also discuss their mother in Jedi and that conversation doesn't make much sense after watching Sith.
This is nitpicking to be sure and not glaring plot holes (I can't think of any serious inconsistencies), but Lucas has complete creative control over all 6 movies so it's not like he can blame anyone else.
I will say this though...I can pretty much guess t hat alot of these inconsistencies will be fixed up with YET ANOTHER EDITION OF THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY. You can bet dollars to doughnuts that Lucas will be adding that scar in, etc. The Lucas money machine will be on full steam after this.
Vader is hardly in Sith but you really get a feel for how powerful he was (you will know what scene I am talking about when you watch it).
But yeah, I would have to agree with the positive reviews...I was ragging on Lucas' writing in a previous comment, but his writing was never very good so if we leave that out of the equation the movie kicks a fair amount of ass.
If you enjoy the Star Wars movies/genre you will like this movie. I saw the movie on Tuesday:
1. It is darker than the other movies...but not much darker than Empire. I think it's only two scenes that, if removed, would have given this the same rating as the other movies. 2. The acting and writing is bad. Some good acting moments, but not many. 3. The action and music and special effects are great.
My biggest beefs were the dialogue between Padme and Anakin.
You WILL need to see this movie more than one time, if for any reason then for the initial space battle scene. There is simply so much going on I wish I could have played that in slo-mo to check everything out.
So go out, grab some popcorn and enjoy the hell out of the movie and try not to analyze it too much. It's an easy trap to fall into (Right Admiral Ackbar?), cuz I know I did.
The writing is poor; the acting is mostly mediocre; the mythos of the entire series destroyed by making the force some sort of organic microbes, YET I STILL ENJOY THESE MOVIES VERY MUCH. Why? Interesting characters. (The music of course is among the best ever created, I am just taking that for granted).
Not deep characters, but interesting.
So....George's new TV show will not include any of the characters we have grown up with?
I won't commit to watching or not watching, however I no longer give him the benefit of doubt. I think my excitement for the series is inversely proportional to his involvement.
Water is most definitely among them. Water can be broken down into H and O, which are both extremely useful as 1. Fuel for propulsion, 2. Breathing (both us and any plants/animals in a permanent settlement). This way we don't need to spend resources getting fuel or oxygen to the moon. That alone could possibly make the moon a better launch point than the earth.
I am installing patches on 250+ systems right now while I read slashdot. Try using SUS server or GFI Languard (which is what I am using). This thing pays for itself easily in the first month if you are doing 300+ systems by hand like your message says.

I think the original email was about walking a user through creating a static IP address. ipconfig /all will not accomplish that goal.
