I know the article says that their main goal was to make sure that whoever does get the license keeps the airwaves open to a "wider range of hardware", but I really don't see any reason why Google couldn't get serious and really try to bid for some air space.
Toshiba had four demos running... Demo 3... scans all your movie files, recognizes faces, and creates thumbnails of those faces. You can then click the thumbnails to watch scenes with those faces in, or compile them in a separate playlist.
Just change those movies to security camera feeds and there you go!
"It's possible that only Microsoft SQL Server databases were hacked with this particular version of the robot since the script relies on the sysobjects table that this database contains."
Doesn't mean that the 'bot can't be tweaked. I think that someone is using this as proof of concept.
The fourth interesting point is that the only exploit we were able to coax out of them was the venerable MS06-014 (MDAC) patched in September 2006. What this means is that they went to the trouble of preparing a good website exploit, and a good mass-hack, but then used a mouldy old client exploit. It's almost a dichotomy.
You can always fork an open source project. Or better yet, start one of your own.
This isn't meant to be flamebait or a troll. This is the beauty of open source. You can DIY if you want to. You don't have to if you don't want to. You can contribute time, money, etc.. to your favorite project. Or nothing at all. But open source allows you to be the solution to the problem that you have noticed.

I believe that Chairman Kevin Martin calls it "No TV left behind".

Hope you can use something less flammable than that as the suspension medium. It could give overclocking a whole new, exciting angle.
With all the movies and sci-fi books out there that have reasons why we shouldn't, maybe we should leave well enough alone.
But it's easier on the environment, too!!
The House tends to do stupid things that the Senate will ignore or stop.

Go ahead, scratch that itch.
So they are all worried about grey goo?
