And if M$ ever put one of these out, It'd be called "Move Along, Nothing to see here..." or "All you ever wanted to know about world domination, but were afraid to ask"...
I stopped liking this show when I was 7 or so. I don't know why, but I just couldn't watch it any more. Of course if theres enough interest in this then maybe there will be a remake... I can just see it now, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Will Smith in a Jerry Bruckheimer Production, TRON...
Allright, so when will I be able to go to wal-mart and pick up my sliders brand dimension hopper? Just imagine the possibilities of disposing a body...
I like to watch all my sci-fi on THE FUCKING NASHVILLE NETWORK!!! What's their other show? Wrestling? Christ, last time I checked, Next gen., ds-9, and voyager were all in syndication on my local fox and UHF stations. I say as long as you pay for cable, there should be absolutely NO ADVERTISING! That's why it's on the free stuff. But shelling out 30-50 bucks a month for 3-5 channels actually worth watching, that all have about three shows per channell that they repeat over and over and over? Next time you see a commercial on TNN, make sure to remind yourself that you're paying for the privilege of being marketed to.
I wonder how many of those copies of windows were legally purchased licensed copies? Thought so. Not even our government pays for all it's software. We're going to see alot of this as M$ cracks down on unlicensed copies, and tries to exrtort more and more money from it's customers. More and more businesses at the top level where only one thing counts (the bottom line), are going to go with whatever can even theoretically get the job done as long as it's cheaper. Of course you say "Well why haven't they done it yet? Linux is so ready for prime time." Lets face it, as much as I love it or you love it, it still isn't ready for the masses. But soon, my pretty, soon... or somethin' like that...
God knows my latest electro-toy is worth a few postal employees being killed. If I don't get my new linux powered pda to supplement the five or so I've already got and still don't have any real reason other than it looks cool to own, the terorrists have already won.
Personally, I don't use it, as I have not attained the level of "leetness" that is required. That said, I thinks it's awesome that development is still going for this and many other distributions (Slackware...). It may not be ready for "Prime Time" (whatever the hell that means...) but Linux is gaining ground everyday while the major OS vendors (Mainly M$) are slapping ever more intelligent users with useless bloat, and the silliest licensing schemes known to man. Someday thank God, when I go into comp USA, and buy a PC, they'll ask "and which OS would you like?" That's when open source has won. God, I love stating the obvious...
I never saw this show lasting long at all. I did see a few episodes, mainly because nothing else was on, and I had liked the cartoon. But this show looked like a loser from the start, and now it's confirmed. People have raised the point of lack of advertising, but I think that's not it. I personally am sick of all the advertising fox does for it's programming. "Coming in six months" over and over for six months really makes me more inclined to flip it over to PBS when the damn show actually airs. Fox has it's few good shows but like all good things, they must continue for at least ten years. Or so Fox thinks. Like married with childeren was any good after they bumped off Steve, and started all that inane hooting and hollering. And I hate to admit it, but the Simpsons is getting less funny with each episode. I think if Fox stopped with the 6 or so months of hype before a show starts, they might actually get a better response. The Family guy seriously needs to go though. Christ, I can feel my IQ drop while watching it. Less effort in the family guy, and more for Futurama. Every few months I see an ad for "An all new Futurama" and I always think the same thing, Jesus, wasn't that cancelled last year? And for the LOVE OF GOD! stop with the X-Files!!!
I myself kill every single upload I see going out of my gnutella client, the main reason is that I need all the bandwidth I can get for my own selfish pleasure. But also, when I kill these uploads, I always get a little satisfaction of ha, you're not getting that from me. I know this goes against the whole P2P concept, and if I had a T anything instead of 674k/sec DSL, I think I'd let all those uploads alone. But then again, I'm not on gnutella 24 hours a day looking for beastiality-teen-incest-orgy.mpg, I only look for those hard to find Skinny Puppy songs. But my point is, as long as helping others puts you at a disadvantage, people will always choose themselves. It's our nature. Of course we know we suck, but as humans we have the luxury of not giving a shit.
You're right. Not every single user of windows xp has shit just working. But the number is far far less than the number of linux users. No, I'm not saying linux sux, I'm just saying it's not quite to the point where you can actually get away with switching windows and linux on the common consumers machine. Notice I compare only against XP, the 9x series had only slightly better hardware support than the red hat's and mandrake's of today. Of course these are all only my opinions. All in all, I'm just saying that getting linux and open source stuff in general out to the public in a form they can understand, can only be a good thing. Or not, it's not like I actually know what I'm talking about.
Oh, wait, I still don't need a PDA, and neither does 75% of the planet... But with that out of the way, it looks cool, seems like a nice PDA, and will show the ordinary user Linux IS just as good, if not better. I wish there were a few distro's that were that easy to use for the novice, and no Mandrake is still not there. When Shit Just Works, and theres no fussing about for sound (mostly done) printing(also mostly done), and just plain accounting for the average StupidUser. I know this has all been said before, and often. Theres a reason for that. But now thanks to more and more cool little embedded devices like this one, maybe I can get some fsckn' Linux coverage on TechTV...
First off this looks like a simple, Employee gets fired, finds some lawyer advertising on the back of the phonebook, tries to live out the american dream and get rich quick. Also, it seems that anyone who types for a living should understand that continuous repetitive use of the wrist will lead to pain. Just like anyone who shovels dirt for a living understands that it's going to give them back pain. I do think that there should be research into what exactly causes carpal tunnel, and that every effort be made to fix it, but until then, if you type for your job, then be prepared for it. The ADA was designed to give people in wheelchairs and such access to the same things that the rest of us have. And if these people without legs had lost them at their last job in the production dept. of legs R us, then no, I wouldn't want them to have better parking spaces or those nifty lifts on the bus. I know it's a lot to expect the American people to think about the consequences of their actions, but I can dream can't I?
Is this needed? I mean seriously needed. I saw the benefits a few years ago in getting higher speeds out of celerons, but mother of god, are you seriously going to notice a difference overclocking chips that are already at 2000 or so Mhz? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but why take life off your cpu(s) when you don't need to? I don't know about most people, but I can't afford a new $800 chip every 4 or 5 months. Hell, I still can't afford to upgrade from my dual pentium pro's...
not real wood of course, just the obviously fake wood-grain like adhesive substance on cheap black plastic... And in a few years you'll need a pair of pliers to change resolution...
Even if the console in question had been the Gamecube or PS2, they still would've put it out. It's not like this was taking up half the screen on CNN.com. But it does illustrate very well the fears I had about xbox. Not that it's inferior to any other console, but theres about fifty companies involved in the "total xbox eXPeriance".
we're running around point fingers and accusations at stuff that dosen't even exist... Good work guys, now Open Source and all things good will be taken seriously...
Common sense will overcome multi-billion dollar marketing? Not in this dimension...
Better the both of them than Chris "canyou understandthewordsthatarecomingoutofmymouth" Tucker...
And if M$ ever put one of these out, It'd be called "Move Along, Nothing to see here..." or "All you ever wanted to know about world domination, but were afraid to ask"...

I wasn't any of the mentioned in the "who should read this book" section... guess I'll have to wait till some educated /. reader para phrases it...
Allright, so when will I be able to go to wal-mart and pick up my sliders brand dimension hopper? Just imagine the possibilities of disposing a body...
All the good million dollar generating through corporate extortion domains are taken...

Great, instead of ads on the back of the yellow pages for the local ambulance chasers, soon I'll be getting Lawyer-On-Line disks in the mail...

Damn! I guess we'll just have to wait for dubya to turn into the antichrist and have ourselves an old fashioned armageddon...
Damn, it looks like I forgot the standard "Gee, can't wait to see a beowulf cluster of these running linux..."

Now I may not be hip on all the true meanings of the fancy acronyms being thrown out daily, but wasn't phantasy star online an mmorpg?
No, no, the welfare line is over there. And remember, it's a two drink minimum...
