to lift wifi restrictions (ie use facetime/skype over 3g, which its able to do just fine), to use my phones 3g as a wifi hotspot without paying $20 a month additional for nothing, for access to your file system, to install different ui's apple doesnt approve of, to install apps apple rejected for who knows what reason, etc!!! i dont know anyone whos jailbroken with the intent to pirate apps.
think what you will about animal research, i have no desire to argue the topic right now, but there are constant studies at universities testing drug addiction (ucla a major offender) and the affects on primates. in simple terms, "i want a grant to test psychological affects of meth on a primate."
what do you *think* is going to happen? we already *know* ffs! ask a fucking tweeker to come in and lets have a chat. whats the point of all this and why are these people still getting money to document behaviours of drug addicted animals??? drives me insane
Jello a long time ago basically "took back" his paranoia of Jerry Brown. The updated version mentioning Ronald Reagan, "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now" basically spells it out.
Without reading the responses, here's the summary:
People with a degree: "Without a degree you won't understand proper theory and your code will suck." People without a degree: "Most people with degrees are pompous and spend weeks documenting and planning a simple project."
Add in a few anecdotal experiences why one is better than the other, argument ensues.
I've been in the closed beta for some time, and seeing this announcement earlier today made me cringe. There are TONS of things yet unimplemented and I don't see them being put in by the 19 day release. For example:
Paladin/Hunter talents haven't been put in the game yet. Other classes have had talents for a while and have had time to test/rebalance... Pally/Hunter will be thrown in and then instantly nerfed at retail because of no time for testing.
Warlock pets aren't finalized yet.
Battlegrounds aren't in whatsoever.
Hero classes have yet to be put in as well, and blizzard won't give any information on them.
Racial traits aren't in yet
No raid content yet.
Tradeskills aren't complete yet
Horde lacks quests and content, especially high level content
Numerous quests still missing rewards/are bugged
I was upset to hear Closed Beta had ended as soon as it did - Honestly Vivendi is rushing this one out the door to compete with EQ2. Blizzard usually takes their time in games and are notoriously late, but... Guess it's gonna be just like every other MMORPG where the first 6 months are a paid beta test.
All that aside though, WOW in it's current form is STILL the best MMORPG out there. Crazy
Actually, industrial music goes way back, but generally Throbbing Gristle are thought to be the fathers of the genre due to the fact that they formed the record label "Industrial Records". Throbbing gristle and most of the Industrial movement of the 70's were infact *NOT* german, they were for the most part british. German influence didn't come around until later when ebm came on the scene.
That weren't necessarily the first Industrial band, there were quite a few at the time, but they were one of the more popular ones. The band actually came together around '75 or so, which is more like 30 years ago, and before that they were a performance art troup called Coum Transmissions.
By definition, the *true* meaning of Industrial music was to create music that is not influenced by Blues. Basically, it was a rebellion against music in itself. Punk at the time was rebelling against 70's stadium rock, but it was still rock; Industrial music took it one step further. So, basically, Industrial music *IS* noise, and what these guys are doing basically is in the true spirit of Industrial.
Now, on the other hand, Skinny Puppy formed in '83 in Canada, which was 21 years ago.
Also, it is a common misconception that Industrial music for some reason has samples of factories and such... I'm not sure where that came from, I'm just assuming people are thinking this because of the name of the genre. Maybe someone has done it, but that's not what defines an industrial song at all.
Apparently from reading comments on this board so far, most people seem to be offended by experimental music. "You call that music? That's just noise!". Believe it or not, Noise actually is a genre of music and has a rather large following. I don't care if you don't like it, but I could just as easily criticize whatever MTV or Classical Rock things you are all listening to.
Remember, people used to say the same thing about Rock N' Roll, which in my opinion is a completely stale genre. Try and open your minds a bit to things you don't understand.
This does not bode well for those of us who just paid top dollar for the last generation of AGP cards.
For those of us who paid top dollar for the latest generation AGP cards, the fact that something new is coming out is no surprise. I have a Radeon 9800XT. Am I mad that now AGP is being phased out? Not really, it's to be expected. So far we've had to deal with PCI -> AGP, and then the various speeds of AGP requiring different motherboards for optimal performance. It's nothing new really, and I'm not too upset by it. Right now I'm pulling 150+ FPS on UT2004 at 1280x1024 max resolution - when that drops down below acceptable, I'll upgrade. Same cycle as always
This is probably the better way to do this, since $REMOTE_ADDR may or may not work on your php config, and... boy does he have a lot of echo statements in there

Umm, yeah, and a 1u server from today is also more powerful than a 1u server from just 2 years ago. So what's your point?
You've got Some Bad Math of your own. 229,150,955 total files downloaded. Nowhere does Kazaa say these are unique downloads, or that each download is from a unique user. For all you know, there have been 229,150,955 downloads of the same song. 229,150,955 * 200? The original number you listed wasn't the number of users, so I don't know how you can even attempt to multiply the two.
Besides that, Kazaa isn't only for mp3's you know...
What's the point of this how-to again? All you need to do is recompile your kernel with those options built in. If you don't know how to recompile your kernel I think you have some more general linux reading to do.
Excellent work. This patch didn't work in the least, and infact broke my XP causing me to restore from an older version. For some reason, the patch refused to find ntdll.dll, even though it was in the specified directory - After pointing the path to a few other directories which also had this file, it still refused, so I had to cancel. Cancelling it warned would cause your computer to stop working. Well, it did. Screw this patch, I'll just have to deal with the lag for now.
So... You don't remember 1991 either, is that what you're saying?
The last season? You mean the first season?

are /. contributors reading nothing but drupal books these days?
Name one very left person in the congress, by that I mean one who would support a real health care bill, one with at least a public option.
Kucinich?

...I wouldn't use PHP, since it makes it hard to execute (you need to run a webserver with PHP support and browse to it)...
Since when?
#!/usr/local/bin/php
<?
echo 'Hello World';
Yes, PHP command-line does exist.
Don't we get one of these every week or so?

I don't care about karma at this point.. I'm sorry, but has google news under the Tech category become the new Slashdot?
I saw this article YESTERDAY before it hit here on slashdot. I'm sorry /. ... it's been a good ride but you're outdated.
Linux is arrogant and clueless? I didn't know an OS could have human traits.

Ok, I'm done now
Funny that you mention it, I'm actually wearing a Merzbow T-Shirt as I type this.

Uhhh, moderators - How was this post a troll? He was just posting what it said on the website. At this point if anything it should just be redundant.

I so wish I had mod points... This has to be the funniest and most clever thing I've ever read on slashdot.
