Were the typos fixed in subsequent printings or the paperback edition?

I had a real problem with the typos. As a professional proofreader and copyeditor, I hereby apply for the job of proofing the new book. Mr. Stephenson, send it along.

I did read the article. Is it really all that reassuring?

Disturbing words in this quote from the article are:

    "might not"
"at least not in the manner planned"
"to swallow anything even if they wanted to"
    "we're pretty sure"
    "probably"

So I assume these are our last few days and will be living accordingly. Whoo-hoo!

What browser are you using? Mozilla lets you adjust on the fly with Ctrl-- and Ctrl-+. I was very relieved to learn of this feature! It works for me on Safari.

  5. Re:Waste of money. on Palm Introduces Affordable Zire · · Score: 1

If you know that a thing such as an e-book exists and can be downloaded to your PDA, you're not in the target audience for this device. If you have no idea what a PDA/Palm is, you're the ones they're going after with the Zire. I think it's great for this market -- it's cool, includes the basics, and it will run out of memory after they use it for a while, so they'll have to buy another one.

I do think it's foolish of Palm to introduce the Christmas-shopper model before the power user model (the Tungsten), because it draws exactly this sort of criticism. If they'd done the announcements in reverse order, we'd all be too distracted with Bluetooth to care about their pretty entry-level model.

Could your company please provide broadband to my small town? I live about 20 miles outside of a large city (Boston) and there is nothing but very basic cable. I'd like to see the figures that show that most of US families live in an area with available access. I'd be willing to pay $50 for it, but I can't!

And yes, I'm a little bitter about living within the Bermuda triangle of cable modems ...

Yes PLEASE! This used to exist in a previous version of Netscape and it is the one thing I miss as well. It's much more of a hassle to open the bookmark-editing menu once you've gotten spoiled by the ability to drag them around in your pull-down bookmark folders. And god forbid I have to live through a hassle. :)

I don't think you'll need the Stowaway keyboard with this Clie, given its built-in keyboard. But I completely agree with the OS and resolution comments.

Why would you buy anything over $100 at this point? Do we know or can we guess when OS5 devices will come out? Am I wrong to expect that Clie (and m515) prices will drop at that point? I am seriously jonesing for an m515 but even I can wait until summer (well, maybe).

I think the appeal is that you get to pat your self on the back for keeping YOURSELF alive so long, as well. It's hard to keep them alive and happy, so therefore, you're doing a great job in real life by just managing to take a shower once in a while.
