Basically the same reason gasoline engines are far more efficient than coal-powered steam plants. Coal plants require more heat, for longer, to get sufficient burn, and require more overall metal cost to build. Plus the ramp-up time is hours, whereas the ramp up time of nat gas is very similar to turning on your car, excepting the huge generators would need maybe 10-15 minutes of ramp up time to get the oil flowing before you turn them full bore.

They've sold themselves incredibly short on their 4 core chips then. Very few(if any) apps make use of more than 4, and those that do see very limited benefit from increasing the number of cores.
They could have had a dazzler on their hands in their 4-core line. I'm saying the business-marketing assholes caused this because "But but 8 cores obviously has to be faster than 4!!!! We need to limit the 4 core so the 8's are faster... mhmmm."

The fact of the matter is a 5'4"(Average height) 110lb(average fit weight) soaking wet woman has near-zero chance of being able to carry her 5'9" (average male height) 180lb(average fit male weight) off the battlefield or help him in a significant way beyond providing fire support and basic emergency triage.
Beyond that because men get more out of adrenaline plus get a boatload more testosterone and muscle mass we shoot straighter, faster, and more often than female counterparts. You have to get into the top 20% of women to begin competing with the barely-average man, purely because of biological differences. Wanting it to be different doesn't make it different.
None of this changed the decision for the Canadian military of course. Men have to pass a physical that is over twice as difficult just to get in now, and have to pass more stringent regulations in Boot Camp. A lot of the women who go through the program complain about this afterwards significantly. If they're not good enough, they shouldn't be there, period. Regardless of gender.
I personally know a set of Native-Descent sisters who are currently both high-ranking officers purely because of minority quotas within the Canadian military. One of them can't even fucking pass the sight qualifications and the military paid for eye surgery for her to TRY to get her to pass it and she still failed then gave her a pass anyways.
With the latest iterations of OpenGL there is pretty much feature parity. Some of the bleeding edge tessellation and such deals don't have feature parity and bloom doesn't have as much impact but to be honest they look shit to me most of the time anyways.
Bloom can make otherwise totally photo-realistic games look cartoony. Which is great, if you're into that, I'm not.
However I think Valves involvement is even making those issues go away, since they're even working on OpenGL itself.
