That's Lobstertainment was one of my favorite episodes. But then I love Zoidberg:-). I agree with what everyone else is saying about BBS not being as good as the episodes. I understand that they have (or will) planned to show the movie as four episodes with commercials. I wonder if it wouldn't come across better that way.

The tactile feedback is fine. It's the audible feedback I find offensive (as the poster mentioned.) I haven't used a model M in several years but I still cringe when I think of that loud springy clacking sound.
Now give me a keyboard with the same feel and less sound and I'd be happy.
Depending on how much it costs for a hobbyist and history buff like me I'd use it. I already use the archive at theTime Magazine site since I am a print subscriber. It's loads of geeky fun going back and reading articles from 1923 to the present. It's fascinating to read articles about Hitler, Ghandi or the first IBM PC in context as they happened. I for one am hoping it is reasonably priced as I would definitely take advantage of it.
...will EMI's excellent (and huge) back catalog of classical recordings be available. All the article says is "EMI's catalog." But I'm not going to just assume that's everything.

I assume you mean to rival iTunes? As far as I know Apple isn't selling their own brand of hardware player. Should be interesting. The digital music download space is getting pretty crowded.
Wow thanks for reminding me of beamer. I completely forgot about that. I had a couple of dozen cds beamed to my account. An awful lot of them weren't available of course. I have a lot of classical and cds by artists like Danny Gatton that don't tend to be available on services like that. Was a cool idea though none of us were surprised when it got mp3.com in trouble.
One problem I often have with some of the indy sites is that a large portion of the music is rock, punk, electronic and their derivatives. I don't mind that so much when that's what I'm looking for but I have always wanted a good source for indy classical musicians. Mp3.com was ok but of course there was a lot of crap to weed through. Magnatune is a good site (although it's not p2p) but again not a ton of classical artists represented.
It seems to me there's plenty of unheard violinists, pianists and even small chamber orchestras just playing for weddings and bah mitzvas and many of them are quite talented. Ok so maybe I'm the only one who's interested in this but it would be nice to find.

I'm not familiar with the artificial delay issue. I used Netflix for a long time and always got my movies quickly. I canceled my free trial of Blockbuster because I constantly had to wait for movies in my queue. With Netflix there was almost never a wait. When you say artificial delay you're not talking about a popular movie that they're out of?
Yea it's a bit OT but with all the talk of the various controllers here's a nice page listing a lot of the sticks we used back in the day.

Speaking of innovation check out the Joyboard on that page. Built for the Amiga it was a surf board type controller. The weirdest idea conceived for a video game might be the Zen meditation game. You had to stand on the Joyboard and remain as motionless as possible. If you moved you would lose. Can't imagine why that one never caught on with the kids.
Well up until very recently my street was not serviced by cable or dsl even though people just a few hundred feet away could get it. In my case it was a matter of there being too few people on my street to justify running the wiring (or that's my guess.)
So up until last week I fell into that category of my zip code has service but it's not available for us.
What are you browsing at? I read at +2 and very few posts have been insensitive. If you're reading at 1 or 0 I am sure the number of f*cktards is far higher.
As a former subscriber I can say they are worth it depending on the type of music you listen to. If it's strictly mainstream then forget it. For me I spent nearly all my time in their classical and jazz catalogs. There's plenty of good stuff including lots of historical recordings by great artists/conducters etc. I was upset when they changed their pricing model. Being able to download all the tracks you wanted (well it was actually ~2000 per month but me being dial-up I never came close to the unspoken cap) was certainly nice but we all knew it wouldn't last.
Check out the link to browse their catalog that someone posted earlier in the comments. It definitely doesn't sound like much if you're used to downloading all you want from p2p. But if you already use pay sites it's a very economical way to try new music.
And as for why I'm not currently a member it's all economics. I plan to join again in the near future.
Oh and again if you're a jazz fan (especially if you like the great jazz pianists like Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Jelly Roll Morton etc) then you'll really like the service.
