  1. sad but true on Canadian Music Industry Wants Subscriber Disclosure Without Court Oversight · · Score: 2

Well ...these "intermediate" guys are close to extinction...they got as much as they could from artists, musicians, movies.....and now the consumer downloads the music or movie almost from the source. No more need of packaging, logistics, marketing, etc....(and also, they always " triple priced " everything between their own companies to wash some $, of course) So now they are begging for some change, because "the people is downloading music or movies". The real problem is when people in the Govt is "tempted", for example, with trips to Whistler or Mt Tremblant for all the family, in a fancy shmancy place, with a fireplace and 2 snowmobiles parked in the garage, free access to private hockey booth (10k/year) to watch a couple of matches, or any pseudo bribery method. ...On the other hand, teachers are on strike (BC) and the public health care system is starting to collapse.... Check how "fair" they play with the people who's feeding them! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_accounting Canada....I still have hope on us.

  2. Why voting parties?? on In Theory And Practice, Why Internet-Based Voting Is a Bad Idea · · Score: 2

So, the lesson is.....are you with "us" or a "terrorist for the system"?

  4. 99% failure, 1% success!! on Academics Not Productive Enough? Sack 'em · · Score: 1

Research is basically about failure, not success. Banging the head against the wall... Is like walking blindfolded into a theoretical barn, looking for THE needle. There is no 100% successful researcher. That's BS. I think "Forcing" to publish goes against serious research.

  5. I like the car analogy... on Ask Slashdot: Best Practices For Maintaining IT Policy In K-12 Public Education? · · Score: 1

IT is just like a car....you can run for a while...until you need gas. No gas, no energy to move the car. Pushing the car is against the purpose of the car. - Establish a plan with milestones and goals. Offer alternatives. Use open source. If somebody insist in $0 budget, ask him/her advice in how to do that and if he/she want to join you to make it happen. I don't know how to run a car with an empty tank with no gas. I've used LTSP once and it's cool to boot a class of 40 diskless PCs with PXE. Using a 100 Mbps network, they even boot much faster than any MS product. A little tricky for the graphic config. http://www.ltsp.org/

  7. I don't understand... on Megaupload.com Shut Down, Founder Charged With Piracy · · Score: 1

I have never received anything from Megaupload encouraging piracy. They provide a service to upload/download files, so they are not responsible of the use of it. 500M in lost revenues? Seriously? These guys? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_accounting They "cook" all the numbers....the 500M are "legal charges" and "administration fees"....not revenue. Oh! ..let's do the following exercise: These lawyers say they lost 500M (in the last year? ) in revenues because megaupload is sharing freely their material. Ok. Let's keep megaupload down for a year. If they don't earn that money back, that means they were bluffing the number...so Megaupload is online again and they pay 10 times that number to the megaupload guys as "lost revenues". I think is a good deal. Right? The sad story is, if Megaupload guys sue back to the US feds, then the bail/fine/whatever will be pay using taxpayers money. From a higher perspective, that means if a tool is used by some individuals to commit a crime, then the tool must be shut down. Using the same logic, all weapons in USA should be destroyed!!!! Not only they may be used to commit crimes, they also kill people, which is much more serious!!!

  11. Way to go! on Chile Forbids Carriers From Selling Network-Locked Phones · · Score: 1

I live in Canada. I bought an unlocked phone and I have a pay-as-you-go plan. The only complain about this system is the "steal" of the leftover money in my account. When I put $10 in it, it last for 30 days. If I had some unused credit in my balance, it "magically" disappears....I thought this was "stealing".....

If you are planning to sell more than 100k units and you have enough $, get serious, contact a factory and ask for some redesign for you.
