A couple of years ago, Slashdot was doing LOTS of duplicate articles and that has been cleaned up tremedously. It's kinda nice to see a dupe now and then to remind me of those heady days of 2007, ahhhh, how I miss them
I remember this one. The professor made the Thermonuclear reactor with a bunch of coconuts, financed, of course, by the Howell's... but then Gilligan saw Ginger...got all flustered and tripped over the whole thing causing a meltdown and the Skipper's hair to glow... yeah, that's a classic episode indeed
The Linksys WRT54G router runs a version of Linux in an open source distribution... Or a D-Link DNS 323 NAS box... there's quite an active hacking community using these boxes...
The lack of mainstream media coverage of this issue is telling. They're not afraid to pass up a story if it's in their best interest to do so. I propose we force them to report on ACTA by kidnapping Kanye West, stripping him naked, tattooing "SETEC Astronomy" on his forehead, and launching him in a homemade balloon purchased by John Gosslin with the money he stole from Kate.
my god, that is the funniest comment I've seen on Slashdot this week. (already at +5 Funny)
I like my GUI text-only, 80 characters wide by 25 lines long. The way Ghod intended. oh yeah and 7-bit ASCII only... none of this fancy schmancy 8-bit extended code-page goop. and GET OFF MY LAWN! Damn kids with their game boys.
I'm working on getting fusion power working by slamming algae together using power from cheap solar cells. I'm still in the planning stages, so I estimate it will be another ten years before commercial applications, such as flying cars, are ready
wait, wait.... from what I read and from what I know about Slashdot...shouldn't the headline read "New Phoenix BIOS Starts LINUX boot in 1 second"? Or how about "New Phoenix BIOS Starts OpenBSD Boot in 1 second"? or even "New Phoenix BIOS Starts OS X Boot in 1 second"?
From the wikipedia article on "Lithium": . Lithium batteries are not to be confused with lithium-ion batteries, which are high energy-density rechargeable batteries. So I'm thinking it was the old non-Lithium-ion batteries that you could get ribbons of Lithium metal from. TFA is discussion the -ion variant battery.
notice to Slashdot grammer nazis: yeah, I noticed that I spelled "too" with only one "o" as soon as I hit submit...so sue me... or, better yet, bring it up with the local OSP (letter "O" service provider)
Some day, in the not to distant future, we will all be paying money to our HSP (HTTP Service Provider), FSP (FTP Service Provider), VSP (VPN-protocol Service Provider), etc. etc. If I want to PING somewhere, well I guess I'll just have to open up an account with my neighborhood ISP *ICMP* Service Provider!:-)
It's like the whole analog cellphone/scanner debacle People had been buying radio scanners for years and years and then it hit the news that some scanners could listen in on cell phone conversations...but even AFTER it was well known, there were still multiple politicians in various countries caught by "journalists" having cell phone conversations with supposedly confidential and/or secret content. Finally the feds made it illegal to sell scanners that could scan the analog cell phone range.... nobody actually fixed the problem. Now that we've (mostly) switched the world to digital cell phones, the interception risk isn't that big, but still, I agree with the parent post... "duh".
Your sentence is missing a period at the end. Also, you should be clearer about who "They" are although it can be assumed that it is "Slashdotters" as mentioned in the subject of your reply. Also, your Slashdot ID (457709) is too high.
Ummmm... whoever modded me funny: I was being serious. (except for the "get off my lawn" part) I cringe whenever I hear a young whippersnapper say "I built my own computer over the weekend" because "building a computer" to me doesn't mean slapping together pre-built parts. (yeah, yeah, and I'm sure someone will respond to my thread saying when they were young, they built their own transistors from the sand in their backyard and smelted their own copper wires and I should get off THEIR lawn.:-)
Yeah, baby... Back before the days of the 4004, 8008, and 8080, when we built computers, we REALLY built computers. None of this: take a pre-built-motherboard, add a pre-built-power-supply, add a pre-built graphics card...
Shouldn't we have "recycling collection" instead of "garbage collection"? C'mon guys all those big 1MB and 4MB malloc()s are being shipped over to third world countries to be disassembled into bits and bytes. We should be recycling things HERE.... not throwing them away for Java to come and pick up.

You might want to refer him to the concept of "fair use".
You might also want to refer him to the concept of "Allogamy" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allogamy Living beings have been performing reproduction ("of any kind") for a long, long time.
I tried it out, I get "To see full output you need to enable Javascript in your browser" That makes this a non-starter for me. I'll stick to Google, thanks.
It's OK... I understand. I got modded redundant because "swine flu" was actually mentioned in TFA, which I didn't read. So, although I was just joking, it was a redundant joke.
I wish I had said something witty like "frist post"
With all the massive coverage in the media, I would have thought swine flu (sorry H1N1) would be in any top 10 list. Oh...wait...wrong kind of virus nevermind:-)

Lego? Microfluidic Filters? Yeah and if I reverse the polarity on the main communications array, a tachyon pulse will be generated.
FAIL: you forgot to mention the Heisenberg compensators and the plasma conduits.

Oh c'mon... man up! What you described is just an average day for some of us. The only network tool you need is a cattle prod.

TDz.
I would mix up all the letters.
