  1. libwpd - a library for wordperfect compatibility on Corel Ousted From Public Life? · · Score: 1

Skip the openoffice page and go straight to the real action libwpd.sourceforge.net

It is being developed by Will Lachance and Marc Maurer for Abiword 2.0 (and OpenOffice too, and KOffice hopefully), I believe there are already Abiword builds with WordPerfect support already available. WordPerfect support will definately be included in Abiword 2.0

I am sure developers willing to help or testers who can break it would be appreciated.

Perhaps if you can give good feedback I could file some bug reports and suggestions, and in general I am interested to know what other people dont like about the GIMP.

I use the GIMP, I know it could be better but I am not so sure about what stuff exactly should be improved.

Well I was at the show on Saturday, and apparently from the blurb on the stand
it would appear that the speedup is achived by increasing your priority on
    the server.

So your connection can do 7.5k per sec, but the server is only giving you 2.5k
per sec, increase priority, and get 7.5k (300% or thereabouts).

Of couse this appears to work best if the server uses (and I quote) "Windows
    INet controls".

A very nice and polite woman named Heather from PayPal called my home
number this morning in order to resolve this dispute between AbiWord
    and PayPal.

She emailed me 2 affidavits that I must sign, notarize, and then mail
via post back to the PayPal headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. The $581
will be credited to my account immediately thereafter. This means that
within one working week the AbiWord Fund will have its $581 back, less
the cost of postage and a notary's fee. All in all, that isn't so bad.

To the folks at PayPal, I applaud you for doing the right thing, even
if it took a while to do it. In my eyes, I feel that your company has
redeemed itself. I only pray that your company handles all future
complaints with the due-diligence that they deserve.

To all of those who have written letters of support to both me and
PayPal on my behalf, I thank you. I think that if nothing else, we've
helped raise some awareness in the general community. At the very
least, we've gotten our money back :)

    Thanks,
    Dom

*) The PayPal documents were multi-page MS Word documents. AbiWord
opened and printed both copies (paper output in my hands) before
OpenOffice even loaded. Abi's versions look better, to boot.
