    Actually that's kind of the problem with this rating system... Web sites aren't static. What's XXX today may be G rated tomorrow. Add to that the fact that you may be rating yourself based on the sites you link to (which are also not static), and at any given time your rating could change drastically.

    I know this is offtopic, but... Are there mp3 players out there that won't play music I've downloaded from gnutella? I've heard allegations and rumors that the sony network walkmans won't play these... ??? I may be under the influence.

    You cannot block spoofed syn packets. There is no way to know, once the packet gets to your firewall, if the packets source is really what it says it is. The only thing that can reduce spoofed source syn packets is 'egress' firewalling. That is blocking spoofed packets as they leave your network, since that is the last time that you will know if the packet actually originates from where it says it does.

    Well... The Cyrix chips didn't do well, but it wasn't because of their shady marketing, it was because the Cyrix chips absolutely sucked... (This is MHO, after owning one... I hated the damned thing...)

    Tangentially on topic (read: offtopic).

    I'm not sure what kind of hard drive you have, or what Operating system... So I'll start assuming things (in true slashdot style)... Assuming that you're running Linux and a newer IDE drive, you can increase your drive transfer rates (in my case, by nearly a factor of 2) using hdparm. It has a man page, and there is a good article on Oreillynet about it here

    I like the idea of setting up profiles that allow you to fire up all the programs necessary for "text processing" applications.

    I don't know how easy it would be to use this system, but at least it's innovation. It's the most original OS interface idea I've seen since the virtual desktop.

    erm... yes... well slashdot apparently doesn't like less than greater than signs, which means the username and passwords for the ftp sites got filtered out... I believe that they are all "anonymous" and a blank password... Sorry for the confusion.

    This is similar to what we did. We worked in groups and commented our functions. This taught black box programming, how to work with other peoples code, and how to COMMENT the code. Coders who don't comment their code should be forced to document large, obscure platform, assembly language programs.

    This is going to sound stupid.... Is it legal to download this show (Enterprise)? If it's not, would it be legal if the commercials were included in the file? I'm not worried about running afoul of the law, but I am curious...
