First of all I doubt there exists such things as "sounds that alias to the "correct" sound in the human ear but which do NOT alias to the "correct" sound after being passed through a typical analogue coping device." Even if it existed, that would mean that as soon as the song enters a Analog-to-Digital conversion, it is distorted, which bars, amongst other things, most modern HI-FI and car sound systems, some DJ mixers, club venues, bref, anywhere where Digital Signal Processing is used, which mean pretty much everywhere in 2010. Also, I'm really not sure what you mean by "variable response"

The companies could hire the world's best hackers and come up with a file that is absolutely uncrackable.... I'd still be able to run an analog line out of an Apogee audio interface and back in with basically no loss in quality.

When I have one or two good beers in the afternoon, do you really think I do it to get drunk? I won't feel more effects than If I had drank two glasses of Coke (I have a fairly high tolerance to alcohol, even if I drink about 1 to 3 times a month). Guess what. I actually like the taste of beer. Shocking isn't it? Now when I buy a 12 pack of Pabst' Blue Ribbon, that's another story.

Awww come on now. Steam is, IHMO, the only gaming platform that does DRM well. You simply have to register your game to your account and you can play anywhere afterwards (even in offline mode). The only time you have to connect to the internet is when registering your games (that you likely bought over the net anyway). Non-intrusive and practical; I can download my games on as many computers as I want and play them whenever I want.

Well the American companies who became pretty powerful thanks to an enforced monopoly on Europe were quite happy, I think. You have to remember that the Marshall plan wasn't just fun and games. Just a quick example: French cinema struggled after the war, since the Marshall plan demanded that at least 70% (I'm pulling this number from my memory, but it's in that range) of movies shown in France (this also applied to most of Europe) be American movies.
