The burden of proof is also on the person who claims nonexistance.

    a) There is no God.
    b) There is no Paris.

That's where skeptics fall out of logic. They require proof of claims of existance, but they do not require proof of claims of nonexistance. To the skeptic both claims above are true.

True skepticism like true Agnisticism requires proof of both types of cliams.

It's like Dagney putting in rail, charging the cost to the taxpayers, then claiming ownership of rail her company never paid a penny for (now THAT is looting).

At least you don't have big media companies saying that skipping advertisements is theft when you know damn well you pay for your monthly cable/satellite television viewing.

Lowest cable bill for 'basic' cable that I know of is around 15 USD average which comes to about $180 a year.

Throw DirecTV with any good programming at $40 on the average - $480 a year.

I have both so I'm paying basically $660 a year for television.

NOW, yes, the basic network channels are available over the air off of an antenna, but (let's face it) there's nothing much there to watch.

  17. Starband woes on Is Starband's Satellite Internet Service Palatable? · · Score: 2, Informative

Ok, I'll start by saying that if you can't get anything else then Starband is ok as a last resort.

A company that I do work for got the Starband service a year ago when they were still shipping their 180 model modems, and at that time it worked quite well. Then Starband switched everyone over to their 360 model modems, and the service went downhill from there when the new modem was installed. My technical evaluation of the model 360 modems is that they suck, and that makes the Starband connection suck.

With all that said, if you can stand the high lag times (a 'good' ping return is around 700ms, but more often 1400ms and higher), and if nothing else is available in your area then it's ok because it beats the crap out of using a modem on a phone line with multiple D/A conversions.

In any operation there ideally should be enough spare parts around that you could build another complete unit if needed, but there's never an ideal situation.
