C'mon. Sterilizing flies with radiation doesn't produce mutants. D/monix has watched one too many Troma films, and needs to be slapped around till he joins the rest of us in reality.
"You don't have to become Machiavelli and you don't have to stab backs."
Machiavelli has nothing to do with stabbing backs or being an asshole. If anybody ever takes the time to read and understand "The Prince", they would understand that it outlines common archtypes(sp) of people, how they can be dealt with, and how to switch power from them to you. It's to politics (personal and otherwise) what "The Ancient Art of War" is to battle (both physical, mental, and emotional).
It's not in their best interest to work to have the DMCA overturned. The DMCA will keep them in business for quite awhile, and is their new 'cash' (or, fame, rather) cow.
No, their not incompetent. They are like the ACLU in that if the case isn't high-profile then they really don't want to deal with it. It's the attitude of "screw the little guys, it's notoriety that's important." It all boils down to what will get them a bit of fame.
Why? Because the change in the earth rotation is SO SMALL that it would take 90909 or so DECADES at their predicted rate to slow the rotation one whole second. This is just another example of 'news' that's nothing more then FUD for the masses. I suppose we're suppose to run around screaming "global warming is slowing down the earth!" like a bunch of Chicken Littles.
If they can jump to get it on, they can jump to get it off when the server is secured against relays. In addition, their lackadaisical attitude toward delisting harms any attempt to get them and their list taken seriously, and just means their list and them are half-assed. I really don't give a fuck if it's a volunteer effort or not. If volunteer firefighters had the same attitude whole neighborhoods would burn to the ground. If these people volunteer at hospitals you could easily find them by following the dead bodies and screaming.
"So you're saying that unpaid volunteers have a "responsibility" to jump when someone says "I closed my open relay"? "
They've made it their responsibility to jump to list the open relay, it becomes their responsibility to jump to de-list the machine after it's been secured. Otherwise their just fanatic assholes.
I don't know if their spam lovers or not, but they certainly are dipshits.
Anybody that needs to set up a relay server for far-flung clients can always, and I mean always, set up a server that relays using SMTP authentication. For the unitiated the sender MUST log into the SMTP server to send out mail just as they MUST log into the POP server to retrieve mail. There's absolutely no excuse to have an open relay. Even for those with a userbase on an NT PDC/BDC scheme, a linux box can be set up using sendmail with SMTP and POP authentication against the NT domain, and it won't cost $1500 dollars just in mail server software to do it (which is exactly what I've done using sendmail, sasl, and PAM_SMB).
In my mail server I have quite a few manually entered ip blocks such as NNN.NNN.*.* which effectively blocks everything beginning with NNN.NNN. Perhaps that's what happened.
(yes, I know that blocking 65k IP's at a time is crazy, but it's a crazy business)
Actually, the reason women were involved with early computers to the extend that they were because prior to the 'computer' as we know it, they were the ones doing calculations for trajectory tables and such and were refered to as 'computors' because THEY computed. They, at that time, were the experts at doing computations.

Well, I won't be using Radio Shack ever again. I don't see any reason to patronize a business that would rather destroy an item it no longer wants or can sell, especially something they were just handing out for free in the first place... rather than give the items away to those who need/want them. It's a waste of resources that could have been better used instead of destroyed. It's this sort of action that defines what the deepest, darkest depths that greed and ignorance can reach.
yes, that's right. The programmer is what makes any programming language powerfull. You might as well ask what color is prettier. It all comes down to the opinion of anybody who uses any particular programming language. There are those that will say Java is better, others will say that C++ is better, and still others that sneer at the C++ crowd and say that C is better. Just pick one that fits most of your criteria that you and/or others in the shop are most familiar with. It would be idiotic to go with a language nobody there knows just because it fits all the criteria since the time spent learning the language well enough to make something good with it will end up costing more than the project is worth.

Well, that's an unpatriotic statement! The memo that I got said me must help people in other countries first, and ignore those here that are straving and/or homeless because their just a bunch of lazy slackers in the land of opportunity!
I"m glad that I'm not the only one that caught that. The poster must have used that 'new math'.

Move along, there's nothing more to see here.
SPAM is so widely hated that I do see people picketing outside of spammers businesses and houses with big signs that read "X is a spammer!"
Well, assault's illegal, but only if you get caught.
I've always advocated a 'hells angel' like organization of system admins and such with chapters in every city to 'counsel' spammers.

Fax spam is dealt with by your state Attorney General. Look up the law that outlines computer generated fax spams.

Yeah, like that would be effective...
"The representative from Norrath is recognized."

I wasn't aware it took any extra effort on the users part to have an IBM or Maxtor hard drive crap out.
