I'd be leery of any company promising me guaranteed anything. Guaranteed support could mean anything from a full-fledged support staff to an automated phone system designed to loop callers back upon themselves.
I'm not sure that personifying Gates will appeal to the masses. I saw this ad with my 11-year old daughter, and the first thing out of her mouth was "Whoa! Bill Gates is OLD!!!"
It's hard to relate to someone when they are ancient (and you are young). Why do you think the Apple guy is young while the Vista guy is older in Apple's TV spots?
I thought that the critics of this project were worried about the effects of COLLIDING the particles. Since that hasn't happened yet, this story is a whole lotta nuthin'.
"There is a lot IT can do to fix its own 2 percent [of the company's carbon emissions] and make it more efficient"
What about IT's methane emissions? There are alot of pizza-eating, Diet Coke-drinking techies maintaining your servers. If that energy could be harnessed (instead of lighting them off through your jeans), a company's energy costs would be significantly decreased.
Hey, this lawsuit is just like the one I'm bringing against/.! I was a "common-law" moderator, and they took my mod rights away! I was expected to perform on the same level as the moderators, but without receiving the same benefits!
given Google's track record, I'd rather have my personal files on my own computer.
Exactly. Why should I allow Google (or any other company) to store my data files, when I can do it myself!
It seems to open a whole can of worms with regards to intellectual property, and who really owns the data. I'd rather avoid that whole scenario, and stick to owning my data myself.
From the article: Microsoft's paid search platform will provide detailed -- but not personally identifiable -- information, such as gender, age and location, for many people who use its search engine, allowing advertisers to target their ads to a specific audience.
Notice they aren't releasing any information (like your name, etc.) that would explicitly identify the person to the advertisers.
I don't see a real problem with privacy here, it just looks like generalized demographic info that is useful to the advertisers.
I'm from Wisconsin, and this issue makes me angry! Governor Doyle is the classic tax-and-spend liberal, and he claims to be fiscally responsible (he has a tax "freeze" proposal that he's currently hawking), but yet he turns right around and proposes new taxes on things!
He is desperately searching for others sources of revenue, since the legislation in our state (controlled by the Republicans, but not enough to override a veto) is forcing him to address ways of lowering the taxpayer's burden. Unless, of course, Doyle doesn't want to get re-elected.:)
The fact that this idea has been circulating since 1992 shows the fact that the business community hasn't embraced this, and continues to ignore it.
It may be about design, but if the business community is unwilling to change its' current practices to implement this, it will remain an obscure idea (albeit a good one), never coming to fruition!
...Replay users are eventually going to screw up the ad industry so much that the net result is going to be more aggressive product placement ads. For example, ads superimposed into the program or more product placement.
Just wonderful.
For God's sake, do you value your rights so little that you're more worried about superimposed ads in your programming than someone telling you what to do in the privacy of your own home?
Show some backbone and start fighting for your rights, ffs!
Arrrr, break out the rum, me hearties!
Do they come with cheese?
That's why I live in an offshore oil rig! I can code to my heart's content, and I'm not affected by silly intellectual property and copyright laws!
Muhahahaaa!
* "You can never win an MMORPG. It's a never-ending treadmill."
Yeah, but my doctor says I need the exercise.
Does that mean that the Geek Squad will be replaced by the Napster Squad? Dang, they'll have to repaint all their cars!!

'Nuff said.

Lawyers for the MBTA claimed Tuesday they had proof the students had violated the law, but stopped short of specifying what they did.
Wow, I can just see these lawyers:
Lawyer: "They broke the law. We have the proof."
Judge: "What is your proof?"
Lawyer: "Um, they...uh, yeah, they just broke the law."
Can you please make it compatible with my wallet?
I didn't realize that Lego had a "smog" building block.

Ooh, you guys are gonna pay me $$$ restitution!

This includes things such as Rigid Body Dynamics, Collision Detection, Fluid Simulation, Soft Bodies and Fracturing of objects.
This will be useful for all those pr0n sites out there!

John C. Dvorak thinks he knows the way Redmond can kill Linux.
:p
John C. Dvorak thinks he knows everything about everything!!
Where's the URL for the website? I don't have the time to read a *gasp* book, so please help me out here!
The challenges, while they evolve, they are not so novel anymore.
How about trying to plug all of Microsoft's security holes?
should be to completely silence Britney Spears. I only wanna see her, not hear her!
I think it's more likely that Mini-Me took over Sony, as the PS3 will be a smaller, "toiter" version of the PS2.
