Define "Proper Peer Review". I can see no more "perfect" review than having the publication made public so that it CAN be reviewed by anyone, and not self appointed gatekeepers of the results.
When I see publications saying "We did the research, and no you can't see it, but here is what it means... trust us", my Spidey Sense goes off. THAT is not science, it is religion.
Peer Review isn't all that it is cracked up to be. THE only real review is when peers can actually review the work. Just being published behind a paywall doesn't mean it is reviewed, by anyone.
I get another job? I work for myself? I get into a different industry? (all things I've done before).
My training (College degree) is in Finance (Financial planning). I work in IT because when I graduated, there were 200,000 newly unemployed financial people in the market. People who aren't flexible will always have problems. I've been a lifeguard, restaurant worker, pool care guy, car salesman, IT worker and financial adviser.
The free market is terrifying,
Freedom is terrifying. It is messy. I still prefer it over security of slavery. What you want is Fascism where the trains run on time.
I assume you vote Republican
Which is why your viewpoints aren't accurate. Your assumptions are all wrong. Can't fix faulty assumptions, so I suggest you stop assuming things.
The problem with Bernie, on Economics is that he is a stupid Socialist, and big government (Min Wage is big government) is the solution to the problems created by big government.
As for the Legal Limbo of ILLEGAL aliens, I have no sympathy. Mind you, if I was in south America, I would come here illegally too! I don't blame them, but I have no sympathy either.
And Military is actually one reason for the Government. Mind you, I oppose getting involved in other country's civil wars and the "Nation Building" that rapes the taxpayers to feed the military industrial complex. I am a Government minimalist. But I also realize that when the Federal Government steals from the social security trust fund, to fund all the other social programs liberals want, something is seriously wrong.
And Bernie, has promised more taxes (all taxes are regressive) and more social spending to fix all the problems caused by taxes and social spending! YAY!
Have you seen Mark Dice? We have plenty of people in college that have no business being there because they don't know anything worth knowing, while having their heads filled with meaningless garbage (Kardashians, Snookie, Brad Pitt etc)
The problem is that we haven't found a way to to it *economically* or *practically* for all those students whose parents can't afford to hire an individual tutor.
But we have. The problem is, that it leaves certain kids "behind" and we've pledged "No Child Left Behind". So instead of getting the most out of everyone, we fail to get the minimum out of way too many. Some kids aren't going to succeed, regardless of how much effort we spend. The problem is, we can't just leave them behind either.
I'm sorry, I don't need Programmed social skills of the far left, who are more concerned with Transgendered 3rd graders than they are with reading, writing and math.
So, while your kids are learning the pillars of Islam, while at the same time you're paranoid about Jesus, my kids learned how to read, write and do math.
I don't want my kids to learn socialized skills being taught in schools today. It is called being a responsible parent.
The war on drugs wasn't designed to toss people in jail. The laws designed to toss people in jail are the differences between Crack and Powder versions of Cocaine, between 1 OZ pot and more than one OZ. Speaking of Pot, isn't it interesting that in spite of it being "illegal" for years, that people still use(d) it?
Basically, I see BitCoin as something that is outside Government Control, and thus a danger to governments. And enough people will use it for normal activities in addition to Illegal ones. And once people start trading FOR BitCoin and not from it, the game will be over.
I should change my sig to "Will work for BitCoin":-D
Part of the post was hyperbole, designed to make a ridiculous point more ridiculous.
I live in a nice neighborhood, in a nice home, on 1/4 acre lot, 200K sq ft and don't make six figures. My commute is eight minutes, and I work in Tech.
My kids could walk to school, we have nice parks and beautiful tree lined streets and a cute downtown. We don't have Major city perks, nor the problems that also come with big city.
My point is you have choices in life. Don't complain about the choices you've made. And don't pretend you don't have choices. I don't complain about not making six figures because I chose not to live in the city where that was possible. I do enjoy my garden, roses and yard.
The sad thing is, you value taxes over people being able to live in their own home. The numbers don't matter. And I'll bet you call yourself a "progressive" and think that you're for the "common man".
Not my quality of life. Yeah, you're idea and my idea aren't even close to the same. I would rather have a back yard my kids could play in than a six figure salary that went to keeping up with the Jones'
I've seen the Families that raised their kids in the Bay Area, they all complain about the same things they chase. They complain about "Wall Street" while working for the same companies that fuel the speculation that made the bubbles that caused the irreparable harm to our economy. They'll vote for Bernie, and more "Big Government" to fight the "Big Government Crone Capitalism" not realizing that Big Government is actually the problem.
These are the people who vote for "High Speed Rail", but would never ride it, because they are too good for it.
These are the people who vote for Rent Control, not realizing it creates the slums they have to live in because they can't afford to live anywhere else. And call it "Quality of Life".
Meanwhile I live in a nice yard, have a nice veggie garden in my back yard, 50+ rose plants to brighten my wife's day and an eight minute commute. No, I don't have six figure income I'll take my Quality of Life, thank you very much.
So, a couple who lives in a house for 40 years is forced to move in their 70's because the tax man says so? You're okay with that? Must be a democrat who loves taxes.
Prop 13 kept older folks from having to sell their house and moving then they retire, simply because the tax man decides the value of the house is such they they can't afford the taxes to live there.
Liberals love taxes, which is why they hate Prop 13.
And yes, all taxes are regressive, biting those that can least afford them harder than those that can pay to avoid them.
Damn Choices! I want a 3500 sq ft home for $150k but I want to live in Silicone valley where you can't buy shit for $150K. There ought to be a law! I demand it!
The problem here is that some of the problem is actually caused by the same kind of thinking expressed here. People think they have a "Right" to tell others what they can and cannot do. They put in rent controls, and when people finally get to the point where it doesn't make sense for the owners to keep renting, and sell, change occupation, move on, leaving NO place for renters people are somehow offended.
The issue is that in a free market, it moves with efficiencies, with less than free markets, it still moves, but with less efficiencies. To the point that people get used to inefficient markets and expect them to last forever, which is impossible. It is like basic economics aren't understood.
Guess what? Rent Controls will always fail, eventually. Just like all forms of socialism based economics. Just because it works for a short period doesn't mean it works.
Depends on whose morals you're supporting. I'm sure you don't agree with the morals of the WBC do you?
Again, who gets to decide which morals are acceptable? The people with the power. This is how cutting off heads becomes acceptable moral stance.
1) Capitals Punishment doesn't violate natural laws, any more than locking people up in jail does. They are however, responses to people who violate certain civil laws, and held in check by other laws designed to make sure they are applied only when needed.
2) Animals (natural laws) kill each other all the time, for food, and for power. Murder is a violation of civil law, with murder being defined certain ways. IMHO if a man kills another man, there are only TWO versions, intentionally, or accidentally. You either intended harm or you didn't. In the case of DUI, you are intending to only give a shit about yourself, therefore it is willful negligence, and therefore intentional.
3) Natural laws apply like this. You are alone on an island. what you do, affects nobody but yourself. You can speak as you wish, worship whichever rock you want, dress (or not) as you like, go where you like. You add a person to that island, almost nothing changes. Add another, and another. Natural laws haven't changed, but society rules (traditions, culture etc) does.
Concepts like "Right to be forgotten" don't work in Natural law. Because if you move to the other side of the island, you cannot require something of the person you're avoiding to "forget you" (and all that they remember about you) This is where I have a problem with modern "rights" that require of others things that people wouldn't have alone on an island. Think of it this way, do you have a right to FREE healthcare? Why can you require of someone else, that they provide for you, for any reason? How does this differ from Slavery or indentured servitude ?
The problem is, that we have muddled the differences between Rights and Privileges, and often reversing the two, where a Privilege becomes a "Right" and a Right becomes a Privilege.
If rights are not given, except by man, then Slavery is perfectly fine as long as those enslaving are in power. Tyranny becomes a right of the powerful.
How about the very useless and often dangerous HeadsUp Notification popup that actually interferes with whatever you are actually doing at the moment. . Notifications have an area, the bar at the top, use that, like it used to be.

Give the world access, and the papers will be peer reviewed.
They can't. They will be changing the name shortly, once IBM lawyers get involved.
Here is the link for those that have never heard of AIX .. http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/...
what happens when you get fired?
I get another job? I work for myself? I get into a different industry? (all things I've done before).

Or .... gasp ... PLANES!
Because "Control"
If the government can't control you, you are a danger to the government. And government cannot allow its people to be uncontrolled.
And this "war on crypto-currency" will fare about as well as the War on Drugs has.

Yeah, because security through obscurity is always the better option!
How about, you know, making sure your "Internet of things" devices are properly secured, and have regular audits of to ensure they aren't compromised?
How about suing the manufacturer of the device as "Dangerous"? Can't we do that?
I learned it as "Reverse Peristalsis"
Two Cans and a string has holes it it. In fact, it almost requires holes ;)
